Recent reviews

Man Hand was a subtle, slow film that probably left a few members of the 48HR audience feeling like they may have missed something. This stunning visual film was let down by the lack of a punchy sound design, but had a menacing tone throughout, led by great performances and one of the creepiest mise-en-scene on display at the grand finals. Although the story was clear, I think shots held slightly too long and lost momentum and interest in the overall story. Does that mean that I didn't think this film was impactful? Not at all. This was a great demonstration of filmmaking that for me, needs to be 100% perfect to hit as intended, which is an extremely tough ask in the 48HRS competition. Glowtime tackled an impressive subject matter and stayed well-away from your standard, easy comedic tone and I applaud them for their creepy result! Well deserved cinematography win and sign me up for a ticket to your next horror short.

Eggs!

This was one of my absolute fave's from the Grand Finalists and I don't know how it wasn't in the top 3 if not the winner. The sultry mandarin of Shi Fu Dong had me cracking up, the sensual slow-motion chopping, the hand-pulled noodles! Such a brilliant funny display of your culture and a genuine laugh out loud experience. Great job team!

This short for me is the quintessential 48 Hours short film. It's a simple straightforward story. It's well crafted, it aims for comedy but with an energy and a weirdness that never holds itself back.

Wonderfully inventive take on the possession film. I was highly impressed with the performance by the lead actor. To lead a film, make it believable, make it hilarious and to do it in multiple languages and with multiple characters is remarkable. He is supported by a fantastic cast-mate and a great script. Well done

This haunting, heartbreaking film delivered a real punch. Director Julie and the team of creatives that concocted this concept were clever with their manipulation of the audience’s expectations. The twist ending was a subversion that created meaning and introspection. Outstanding performances from the cast that sell the tragedy at the core of their idea. At the grand finals, the director, Julie spoke so eloquently and so beautifully. Her consideration and artistic intention created a powerful project. Well done.

Both main actors are incredible but the set design, costumes, and writing are just as packed. Done it again really.

The cinematography and camera work is incredible in this short. The jokes also work well for the tone it tries to set.

I'm here because of the article "Film Festival Strategy with Ross Ozarka".

What a joy to watch this commentary on the blinkered and hypocritical "tough on crime" rhetoric that permeates our society. Such a ludicrous animation concept that tells such a compelling story. We even get to see a perfect neighbourhood by the end of the film.

A fun animation style that works really well for 48Hours.
