Circus Animals

Great use of the prop and a simple, yet riveting story. Good acting, camera and sound with polished editing. Shows that limited dialogue in a short can work. City finalist I think. Well done!

Henchmen

I was going to give this film a 10 out of 10, but I don't think those fools prrrotected me enough. When I was back in Prrrretoria, my fools there were verry prrrrotective of me. Having said that, I think the acting in this shorrt film, especially from Dr Du Plessis was bloody top notch. I think my folks back home in Prrrretoria will be verry proud of me. Enough said! Now we win this thing! Fools!

Surface Pressure

I loved this, so much to admire about the subtle performances of the two leads here as it’s a very difficult subject to encapsulate, particularly in a five minute short! Could easily have stagnated at single-level playing of emotion, but this rose to heights that really made you care about the plight of both.

The cinematography was stunning; film school warned of using lens-flare and that it should be avoided. In places here, it raised the bar. Felt like watching something truly cinematic.

A great piece that stands in isolation as a collaborative effort of the highest quality, outside of the competition. A film to be proud of.

Looking forward to more next year…

Cruel Games

Pretty engaging attempt with a very funny split screen opening. Unfortunately that was the highlight for me. Bartender drew some laughs with his interesting facials, but overall a good attempt at this difficult genre which fell slightly short of the mark. Good freeze frame ending.

Mimey Vice

Made me chuckle at the concept of clowns Vs mime artists. Fun was the name of the game here and although some of the cuts let this down, the use of genre was interesting. I don't know why, but this had me thinking of the droogs in 'A Clockwork Orange'. I never thought turf wars could be so humerous. A good effort and drew lots of laughs.

Bus Stop Love

One of my picks. Great twist at the end which took most of the audience by surprise. Performances were good throughout and fun was the name of the game. Great use of after effects in editing which made me chuckle as I had seen a very similar one a couple of years ago. Good short guys!

Laputa

Failed attempt but still got plenty of laughs. Wasn't sure about the story as this was very ambitious for a short. Some very funny moments. Better luck next year guys.
