How did you find your Genre's and the elements for 2018

We used a metaphorical puddle in our dialogue. Then on Sunday I reviewed the rules and decided that perhaps we need an actual puddle (to be seen) so we threw one in at the most appropriate place. Very subtle and hopefully won't be noticed but it's there just in case the rules are that strict!

Green Screen Time

Every year since 2005 I've wanted to pull off using a green screen in the 48Hours comp. Finally in 2018 we had the right Genre (The Last Day on Earth Movie) and out it came.

Started with some test footage and dropped it in Premiere, added an Ultra Key in aggressive mode and BOOM. Perfect. A couple of garbage mattes later and it looked sweet. Ended up with 3/4 of the film done on green screen.

Who else had a go?

48Hours - A Family Affair

Now that 48Hours has matured (15 years?) I'm interested in how many teams are made up of families. Especially kids that grew up around 48Hours madness.

For my part: I started when my kids were little, then started using them in our films. Then they progressed to being in their own school teams. Now in 2018 we entered as a family of four (girls are 13 and 16). It was so much fun. A completely different dynamic, and something I'll cherish.

Who else has a family affair?

What if changed all the requirements this year?

With the change to Rule 1 - allowing stock footage etc - I am guessing that a new requirement this year will be based on this rule. I have no idea what, but I'm suspicious...

Best Places to Get Stock Music/Images/Footage?

Can I use any content from YouTube that is Creative Commons (you can filter for this)?

NEW RULES - IMPORTANT

For teams who use the same actors every year there must be plenty of footage available to hack something new together and make it work. It would be nice and obvious too which would be funny – especially if voiced over.

I have always wanted to film everything on a green screen but have shied away because I’d also have to film background plates. Now I can use stock footage.
