Match Cut!

What an awesome idea for an element this was!
I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone has done with it.

I loved it.
I am disappointed that they gave the option of the dissolve.
I think a match cut is not that tough, but is creative and adds so much

Hey, thanks! It was my suggestion. Five years of lobbying Ant finally paid off.

Good call Andrew.

Definitely got us thinking visually earlier in the process.

The other elements were pretty good too.

The line was incredibly easy to incorporate (good thing or bad thing? Not sure).

Thoughtless seemed to have a few possibilities (although another trait that tends to negativity)

I think bread will be the dominant element in a lot of films.

I found it kind of tough to be honest, I wanted to do the sort of 2001 shot and found that tracking a flying pen is really hard.

Teams still managed to find ways of making "oh really?" seem forced. But it can also go by so subtly that you don't even notice!

A lot of teams interpreted "thoughtless" as "stupid".

Bread is sooooo dominant.

Opening shots of bread, breadmaking, ninja bread fights, toast!!! dough and rising puns abound, mannequins of bread, ducks being fed, bread as a toilet paper substitute.
Sigh

We weren't so fond of this element, as none of our team had heard of it before and we misinterpreted the definition we found online.

In our final film we used two people having a phone convo in split screen, thinking this qualified as a match cut.

"a cut in film editing between either two different objects, two different spaces, or two different compositions in which objects in the two shots graphically match"

Didn't realise until today that we got it wrong.

Gutted. First time in 8 years we're out of the running :(

The first (and only other) Christchurch innovation is murdering prostitutes and dumping their bodies in the Avon, so it's about bloody time you got a new thing to lay claim to.

This is most definitely my favourite tech element so far (and perhaps ever), and it broke my heart that the rockumentary genre limited how stylistic we could be with this shot :'( Oh well, perhaps we'll sneak in a match cut next year!

Today I had something pointed out to me that I had misread.
I thought the technical was 'Match Cut' or 'Dissolve', rather than 'Match Dissolve'

Truly lucky we went with the Match Cut...
Curious to know how many simply included a dissolve...

Ant's post on the New page at 7:16pm on Friday states:

TECHNICAL ELEMENT :Match Cut/ Match Dissolve - Read this

so that seems pretty clear that both qualify. Maybe confusion arises because if you click the 'Read this' hyperlink provided next to it, it goes to a Wikipedia page for Match Cut.

I've got the feeling more than a few teams will have misinterpreted the tech element (including us). So I'm hoping the judges will be lenient on disqualifying teams for misusing it..

2015 - Blurred Lines - (Best acting nominee)
2014 - Rosco - (City Finalist, audience fave, etc)

I'm picking you're one of the people that watched Hope & Wire and thought the skinhead-to-normal person ratio looked totally realistic.
