Auckland Finalist Predictions!

Here's mine. Obviously I didn't attend every heat, but I did get to a couple. So here's 4 films I think that are city finalist worthy.

1. Chillybox
2. Bald Faced Cheek
3. Brothers in Crime
4. Costa Rica

What's your picks?

I only went to one heat, but I think we might see 'The Punisher ' by Douglas + Manu Productions in the finals. Mixed on the reviews site but I was very surprised by how well they put it together.

I only went to our heat 8 and all though we're nowhere near the pace ourselves... There were 5 solid films worthy of progressing...
Looking forward to seeing who progresses from other heats too

Some reasonably solid efforts in Heat 13, but nothing that really jumped out at me as a top-level winner. Some REALLY creative ideas though, even if the execution was a bit off.

1. Chillybox
2. Bald Faced Cheek
3. Brothers in Crime
4. Costa Rica
5. Jovial Entertainment
6. Douglas + Manu Productions (outside chance maybe?)

Anyone else able to comment on some other great films that could be in the AKL finals?

Haynesfilmbunch was great, and the top rated film in the reviews right now. I fully expect to see them in there. I wouldn't be surprised to see Grand Cheval or Chess Club make the finals either. I don't think this was their strongest year, but they always make good quality films and would be city finals worthy for sure.

Those are all heats 2-6, so not even half of them are covered. It's going to be another tough year for Auckland teams to make the finals.

Anyone know when we can expect the announcement? 11 days until the city finals and tickets are already on sale but we don't know who will be in it...

Mahamina is a pretty good contender for grand champion this year I think.

Jovial's Munchies was a delight to watch, I'd love to see it in the grand finals.

I could be wrong, but I feel like I Love Loops always get overlooked in the competition. Hopefully not this year!

There's a few teams that I feel are overlooked. Not by poor judging, but more because I think that the big teams get looked at a bit more closely. How could they not when their names stand out after being in the finals each year.

With the absence of some big guns, and a lot of teams delivering amazing films. I think this AKL final is going to be huge.

And just referring to the comment above about Cheval getting DQ'd, I checked their heat and it says they're not DQ'd at all. Unless the review site is wrong?

The review site has a number of teams that are DQ not listed as such.

4. Costa Rica
5. Jovial Entertainment
6. Douglas + Manu Productions (outside chance maybe?)

I only went to my own heat (6) because I'm lazy and selfish, but there were several films in that that I wouldn't be surprised to see in the final in the slightest. I wonder when we'll know? I'd be shocked if I got into the final but I don't want to ruin that 0.001% chance by uploading to YouTube before I know my film has been released. lol.

Team Just 2 Guys... only I'm just one guy... one fat guy... so I guess I am two guys?

Yeah, you've gotta hold out hope on a place in the final even if you're not sure you have much of a shot. I went to 2 heats but it's still quite difficult to judge what the bar is.

Apart from my own film? I thought that Sideways' film had the potential to be a finalist but nothing really stood out for me in heat 10 and 11.

I started to review some from Heat 11 but I started to forget what the films were about but I'll probably start reviewing Heat 10 before the end of the week.
