Is it really any different than the Academy Awards? I might see 20-30 equally amazing films in one given year at the cinema, and even I would find that tough knocking it down to 6-12 finalists, let alone having a few other judges to argue with what should and shouldn't make it in.

Sure I might know my 1st, 2nd and 3rd favourite films, but really, let's face it, normally 4th-10th merge into one bubble and it's very hard to separate them from each other quality wise, let alone the other 10-20 awesome films that could have made the final.

So when it comes to this comp, people seem to have a regional hang-up, and they think somehow their region should get special treatment. I've spent most of my life living and making films in Hamilton. In fact I'm currently living and working here, and I have no issue with only one Hammy film making the final, or none for that matter.

The best films rise to the top, and there will always be equally as good films that are left by the wayside, purely because they were 0.1 points below another. So let's leave our own personal and regional biases, and just enjoy the great films this comp puts out every year, be they in the grand final, regional finals or just the heats.
