I just watched Hybrid Motion Pictures - "Surcease" and it occurred to me, why isn't there a category for best sound? (admittedly watched on my laptop but stood out straight away).

Great pictures tho as well. Looking forward to seeing the other films tomorrow night!

I'm curious as well, a lot of the organizers make a big deal about how important sound is to the short so I think it is interesting that they don't offer an award for it. Maybe they can't find a sponsor to put up money for a sound award?

Annoyed Grunt:

2014 (Wellington) - A Little Bit of Pluck - The Against the Odds Movie
2013 (Wellington) - Parasite - The Robot/Cyborg/Android Movie
2012 (Wellington) - Sunday in the Park with Mary - Musical/Dance

2011 (Christchurch) - Tip of the Iceberg - Body-Switch Movie
2010 (Christchurch) - Sidney Manson Saved my Life - Biopic - Disqualified (Wrong DVD Format)

how i understand it is that each of the awards are specific to sponsors. i.e. best female director award exists because wift offers an award for it to exist. best cinematography exists because it is sponsored by canon etc. i'm sure if envy or park road said to ant that they wanted to specifically offer a reward for best use of sound or best sound design then the award would exist :) i'm most interested about the best editing award to be honest... am i mistaken or is that a new one this year?

Sponsors makes sense.
Just a shame those people doing some great work don't get some kind of recognition for it! (prizes aside...)

Hrm, but there are other awards which don't have sponsors...they just do a certificate.

Like pretty much all the categories that don't have a sponsor's name in front of them.
