Reviews

RACE AGAINST THE HORNY presents an earnest yet intimate slice of life here that hits some very real notes about young passion, with the title standing out in particular due to the uncertainty of time and how long a flame will last in the bedroom for a first time. I should also mention that these were some of my favourite performances in the whole competition, played deadpan to wonderful effect as the mythical idea of making love for a first timer crossed over into the fantastical realm in reality.

What I really liked about this film was the pacing, as clever production design (other teams should take note, basic but good lighting and textured but sharply done backgrounds with appealing visual aides like posters can make a world of difference if you shoot in a flat) allowed the intimate nature of the bedroom where the making out and would be sex happens to contrast so well with a jungle beat driven race to get condoms from the outside world.

Sound was also on point, capturing the relatable dialogue in crystal clear fashion whilst the film's defining element of the cute but whimsical pop of the condoms disappearing into the nether-realm could not have been more appropriate.

Payoff was spectacular and basically this was a great example of a team playing to their strengths and nailing it.
