Emily goes to the dairy and buys some milk

I'm not sure what the intent was behind this film - I suspect Musical/Dance threw this team - but I am sure that in the screening at Little Andromeda, this film absolutely SUNG with an audience, hanging on every last awkwardly-held shot and awkwardly-performed dance sequence. I feel like it would not work quite so well in a streaming context, but after the live screening it was all my friends and I could talk about.

In a competition where far too many films end abruptly without delivering on their promises, Emily Goes To The Dairy And Buys Some Milk does exactly what it says on the tin. It's got a beginning (Emily), a middle (Goes), and an ending (To The Dairy And Buys Some Milk). And it is SO satisfying when she finally gets that milk.

The kind of beautiful, transcendent strangeness that you only get, and that can only work, in 48HOURS.

I was kept interested with the arthousy vibe,.. a good level of randomness that still takes itself seriously

Truly a masterpiece that delivers what the title states. Such a beautiful moment when she acquires the milk.

Definitely a team woefully underprepared for Musical/Dance, but some magic happened on that sunny Saturday when Emile went to the dairy to buy some milk.

The lingering opening shot was great, and as Emily walked away, way out of focus, I found myself hoping this would be the whole film - a static shot where someone leaves the frame and comes back 4 minutes and 55 seconds later with a bottle of milk. What an experience that would be.

Still, the film we do get is absurd and relentlessly entertaining. The music, when it does show up, is a little too loud, but it totally adds to the bizarre nature of this (perhaps unintentionally) arty entry into the competition this year.

My only criticism would be that I think the film becomes a little too self aware - I didn't like the narrator describing the dance as "awkward" the second time. Emily should be confident and proud of her dances. She should hold her head high.

She bought the milk. She did the dances. She kept the gate? I guess so. Great stuff.

Challenge for next year: If your technical proficiency was a little stronger, an absurdist film like this could actually find itself going pretty far - though it maybe needs a touch more story. Or maybe that would ruin your vibe! I don't want to control your vision, you're clearly much better artists than me.

This is one of those films you watch the first time expecting something else to happen but it never does. It's also one of those films you rewatch expecting, for some unexplained reason, something different to happen this time, that of course, never does.

Strangely compelling. Very rewatchable.

I absolutely loved this. Strong Jarmusch vibes. My mind is already racing, thinking about sequels - Emily goes..

Please don't ever change. 5 stars.

You guys had some of the Little Andromeda crowd giving you a standing ovation at the end, I haven't seen that in 8 years of going to heats, so for that alone you get an 11/10
