Survival of the mutant

From the moment this film began I enjoyed myself... perhaps a little too much! Told from the films protagonist's internal observations, we find the last surviving man recollecting his past through saved footage on his computer, before departing outside and... what happened? This film was great for it's 'have a go' approach, I was reminded by this very entry at how special the 48 Hour Film Festival can be, enabling any competitor to get involved and produce a piece and share a tale. I won't comment on it's technical quality, but found it to be a surreal little gem to open the night with!

Monkey Business

An enjoyable film guys! Solid performances throughout, with some excellent shots and well placed humour. I enjoyed the approach to the genre as well, tying those requirements into a narrative that didn't require much 'breaking out' of the world you'd created. Great job! I found the story a little hard to follow at times, such as the purpose for raising the money - I didn't quite pick that one up till the end - but overall enjoyed myself and the conflict between the dancing monkey and boss. Well done team!

Hira's Tree

An interesting Urban Legend tale, and a good achievement in maintaining a tone for this short that wasn't let down by inconsistencies in the narrative. I felt the voiceover did overpower the telling of the story that the audience was watching however, as I felt distanced from the character's emotional journey that was set up so well at the opening of the short. The result for me left a vague ending that I didn't quite follow. Well done NIMLIN, I look forward to future tales!

The Dragons are Coming

"Our hero mistakingly shatters an ancient artifact that protects the Earth from the coming of the Dragons. Instrusted with its remnants, he must journey to find the man who can aid him in restoring this artifact, before it's too late..." A great hero narrative, told with some dry 'matter of fact' performances from our lead, this adventure tale was great fun to watch. I'd say that the production values on this piece needed a little more polish, however I felt the story's progression, and wonderful acting approach from their supporting cast (loved the Wizard... at these sort of things fella!) drove the story home to a satisfactory ending. Not too shabby indeed! I can't wait to see what works your team gets up to in the future!
