Stuck in Invercargill

I thought this was going to be an Invercargill propaganda... until it wasn't... and I am completely fine by that!

This was a funny one, definitely going off of your previous entry "The Haast and The Furious" and followed by "Stuck in Invercargill" which then teases our characters going to Bluff at the end. So... AM I THINKING WHAT YOU'RE THINKING?!

All I could think the whole time was whether they were going to kiss or not

As someone who loves Invercargill, and someone who once got stuck in Invercargill, this film really speaks to me! I was VERY entertained! I love Meme Teme so much, and I want to see them firing on all cylinders. I think this is a good step up from last year's film, and the jokes KILLED at the heat! “My precious glue!!” ‘The pool!! the museum!! “You're right, this place sucks!” There's a handful of ways the film could improve with better cinematography, better sound, and better music, but I can't quite put my finger on what's missing. I think your actors are quite reserved, but in a way that actually fits the Invercargill archetype. Maybe it would work better if they had extremely contrasting personalities? IDK. I would love to have seen more of Invercargill, similar to how Paris is depicted in French New Wave films. It could be the Hollywood of the south!
Have you ever seen Eagle vs Shark? I feel like that format would work SO WELL in Invercargill, Bluff and Gore, filled with all sorts of retro colourful characters and settings. Keep reaching for the stars Meme Teme!! If i'm ever back down there, I will hit you up!

Strong step up from last year; would love to see that trajectory continue.

This felt relatively ambitious! But... There are bolder places to film than Invercargill!
If you're gonna build a film around a location... This ain't it! I understand that's the point, but it becomes a point limited by its own success!

My eyes were… “glued” to the screen during this buddy romp. Haha just kidding I lost a bit of interest towards the end but the punchline brought the house down. Genuinely nice buddy chemistry that made me wish I had a friend myself! But unfortunately here I am reviewing 48 Hours heat films on a Friday night while sitting on the toilet.

A cute bromance with some nice humour along the way. Making fun of small towns is a risky business, but this film was affectionate in its portrayal and redeemed itself with the premise that an even better town is an even smaller town.

Great entry from the meme team! A really funny script and a hilarious subversion of expectations at the end. Amazing that 2 of the team made this film and continue to live in Invercargill

Another wonderful entry from MEME TEAM! It blows our minds that you guys make your way down south just for this, and to see friends too I suppose. How good!

The setup to this film is one of our absolute favourites from this year - it was so, so funny, and it really set the tone for an excellent adventure throughout the wonderful town of Invercargill.

And then, sorry to say, things get a little bit shaky. Turns out when you don’t have much to say about Invercargill, and neither character is really rooting for Invercargill, the tension isn’t quite there, and then after walking around for a bit, some magic water resolves their issue, and the film’s kind of over. There was soooo much potential here from the setup for a buddy film where two different kinds of personalities have to work together, find common ground, learn to accept each other, etc. But instead we’re kinda, well, stuck in Invercargill! and it leaves the story a bit stuck too.

THE BEST THING: The setup is a slam dunk.

THE NEXT THING: And this was echoed by the judges, the story just needed a bit more to it - more edge, bigger moments! I know you have it in you! Well done once again, a worthy shortlist, and we look forward to next year’s entry!
