This was suuuuuch a TREAT!! A beautiful escalation of style and comedy!! Such a small set, but it JUST. KEEPS. GIVING!! I will have to give it a rewatch

I assume this is based on a true story, because I had deja vu. Like a stoner shared experience.

Beautiful looking film; consistent, creative, out there style alongside strong visual storytelling.

Brilliant!!

Funny story, strong acting, great lighting, and a really cool set (loved the toaster glowing, the golden glowing drawer, and the zoom away shot of the tiles!). The cinematography was stunning and the smooth editing tied it all together beautifully.

Brilliant. Simple and brilliant.
Pulling so much out of such a simple situation is nothing more than genius.
The make-up was deliciously gross. The pay off was perfect.
This is one of the rare films you could watch on loop and enjoy endlessly!

Fantastic movie, so creative. The acting was very strong, and the lighting was very cool. Loved the cinematography, and the story all came together so well. What a creative and talented group of film makers.

I actually try incredibly hard not to compare team's 48 hours entries compared to their other films. I'm not a judge and so I'm always trying to focus on how successful a film is on what it is setting out to achieve in my opinion.
Yet I would be remiss to mention that this is one of the biggest step ups in quality from one year to the next I have seen in a very long time in the competition. I'm sure it was just the team taking a different approach due to how the cards fell, but I loved how you brought the fun this year!

The diegetic needle drops and we groove right into the film immediately with a wake and bake rolling of the perfect joint whilst funk infests our eardrums. The film is here to play and we are here for it. One of the better openings in the competition this year.

Now unfortunately for our wannabe stoner, losing control of his spliff in the hand leads to it landing in an unfortunate place by accident and results in an escalating and surreal comedy of errors. The performance of the lead actor is excellent I must add.

The colour grade and lighting here is absolutely phenomenal throughout, whilst the film was elevated even further still by good vfx and a couple of genuinely dream inspiring images. Genuinely impressive visuals for 48 Hours. And sound is super clean on top of that.

There is one glaring technical issue in the first half of the film that I couldn't help but notice which is the lead actor's microphone is very clearly visible on the front of his dressing gown. But probably a minor issue in the grand scheme of things as this was a hugely enjoyable ditty that will resonate big time with anyone who has just wanted to get high in the comfort of their own home. Loved it, team.

This is a great film with a well thought out story. Interestingly there were two teams this year with the same idea of man-vs-toaster, the other one being "Burnt" in the Christchurch region, and honestly "Toast" is by far the better film purely because the story is more comprehensively thought out. Worth watching and comparing.

The only negative for me was the sexual reference with hands in the toaster. Honestly, and others will no doubt disagree, but for me it just seemed gross and detracted from the film. Importantly, it also meant I didn't show the film to the children - including references like this limits the potential audience. This one joke is the only reason the film needs to have a higher age rating. In my personal opinion it would have been a stronger film with a broader potential audience if a different idea had been used for this one joke. But that's just me.

The rest of the humour of the film was brilliant. And I really loved the team's award acceptance video, going through all the same "stages" as the film. This team has excellent writers, and you're hilarious. Looking forward to more from this team.
