Come Die with Me

Solid comedy struggles against an extremely basic technical setup

A solid twist on the reality TV parody. The lead actress was super convincing as a cooking show host. You guys should do a sequel so I can expand my recipe book.

This delectable confection did NOT tickle and tantalise my tastebuds. Hardly a feast but a passable snack. Ghost effects had me spooked - you ever seen thru someone in a kitchen? Well I have and this movie which I understand is called Come Die With Me captures it well and folks it’s no picnic.

I'm impressed that you pulled off a translucent ghost for the entire film, with Jerry sticking his hand through her multiple times. Your actors coped very well with this handicap.

Jerry's line about his future wife is adorable.

I can't help but feel sorry for the chicken.

I can't decide if the film is condescending or affectionate in its depiction of a naive sheep farmer. Maybe both?

The film had a great set-up about the bowl tethering the ghost to the earthly plane. I would have loved to see the consequences of the bowl being broken.

Dine Hard, the next reality TV cooking show with a host that's a ghost and the guest does the rest!

This was such a fun concept, I loved Mabel's upbeat energy, despite being dead, and Jerry's awkwardness and ineptness in the kitchen was such a fun counter-balance! Amazing work managing to pull off the translucency throughout the entire film too, having worked heavily in VFX for a 48Hour project a few years back, I know it's no easy task to have nearly every shot being a special effect!

A suggestion I'd make would be to focus on your technical setup. Add in more shots, and maybe expand the world outside of the kitchen! I can see your vision with the reality TV set up, lovely wide angle capturing the kitchen action (also a handy trick to 'ghost up' your lead!), though oftentimes these reality shows have two-three cameras rolling at once - which you could potentially fudge if you've only got one camera with extra takes from different angles. Sometimes reality cooking shows go elsewhere too, like explaining where the food comes from - it could've been fun to see Jerry have to go out and kill the chicken for the meal!

Overall though, a really fun time with this one, what a wonderfully quirky take on the ghost genre, and it's clear you all had a great time making it! I can't wait to see what you pull together next year :)

Really loved this! It was great to meet you and learn a bit about your team. Knowing you guys have young ones to care for while balancing that with making a film is always tricky - so we were very, very impressed!

THE BEST THING: Excellent dialogue - Jerry’s awkward nature was perfect, and the VFX were pretty good too!

THE NEXT THING: Hard to say what you should focus on - the angles comment above is a good note, and we always like to see the story dials turned up more than they often do in 48Hours. How much crazier could this have gotten before he tripped? Still, a solid short! and we look forward to seeing you return next year!
