Me, Myself and Urine

Hooked right from the team intro, good use of humor to keep audience interested. Some parts of the story seemed a little forced and could have been told better but nothing major. Technically sound, good cinematography and particularly I couldn't but notice the really natural use of the line "I did that" incorporated appropriately in the dialogue. Simply the best film in the heat and deserves to go up higher.

Power Surge

Great work for a school team. I think there is more room for improvement in the camera work and the scripting. Maybe less talking and epic music and more action from the actors would have got u a lot further

Nanny Cam

Unfortunately didn't really understand what the story was about. Only at the end I realized it was something about breaking an urn with someone's dead grandmothers remains in it. Mainly the problem I had with the film was that the 1st person perspective didn't really work at all considering that it was supposed to be a baby and the baby's perspective doesn't move at all on its own. It really didn't feel like anything else than the camera. Also too much unnecessary dialogue. Too many things happening and didn't put across what was important as important. I think this team tried to be too honest with their genre and didn't realize they still had to make a 'film'.

Black and White

In my personal opinion this was a film based on one idea and one idea only, which is too say everything built up to a turnaround near the end and that was pretty much it. While I think this is a really valid approach for any short film, I think in this one the other parts of the film wasn't really sufficient enough to hold up this single event (ie Ending). It was much better than some other films in the heat but could have used much better lighting and sound. The background music and ambient noise was superb, the dialogue not so much.

Nicky Brick on the Pukeko

I'm guessing this was a school team and if I am right this was the best film I've seen done by a school team in this festival. The cinematography, and sound was ok and the simple storyline was ok too. There was a bit in the middle where the camera was following the main character for a little too long but passable considering the genre. I really hate to be asking this but what lens did you guys use? The sharpness of the image was really impressive.

The Audition

Great film reminescent of charlie chaplin and buster keaton. Really loved the simplicity of it all and such good actors! Thought the opening scene could have been better though

Council Maintenance

Good effort for a school team, especially liked the cinematography used in the opening parts of the film. However unfortunately, besides that everything else needs much work. Sound is a problem for most teams in this festival so it goes without saying it could have been better but most of the storytelling could have been much more fluent and smooth if there were different shots added in and took out unnecessary captions. The tension building was going well until everything sort of collapsed into a really bad comedy right at the end. Sometimes what you do not show tells the viewer than what you show.

Get Lost, Be Free

Great little short with so many cuts! Can tell how hard the crew must have worked for this. Telling the story by what is actually in the screen would have been better than telling it by a monologue

So professional and impressive soundwork. Some parts in the story looked a bit rushed but thats what cartoons are like anyway. Great short in many ways
