So laugh out funny. Had a great time seeing this at the heats. A perfect end to the evening, especially with the anticipation from the bingo card that the cathedral would be exploding at some point during the week.

A very NEW ZEALAND TODAY type take on planning revenge on the north island via mockumentary/interview resplendent with great visual jokes and a fantastic lead performance.

You're not wrong. Fuck the North Island.

Does it work great as a film? Its funny for sure. But mockos aren't personally my cup of tea for 48 is all.

What I liked:
Funny, of course, and a nicely paced political advertisement. Ridiculous imagery and claims. The tossing of the North Island into the sea and resulting realisation of what that might mean for the people living there was a great touch. Nicely filmed, edited and wonderfully myopic.

Take it or leave it:
Piece-to-camera political PSA/mockumentary. Slight eye-roll but it is fun. A one-person on a mission to destroy the North Island may have shown more ambition. I know that’s not what you were going for, but you still have thrown the North Island into the sea!

Final hot air:
Fun and quirky as normal from Toot Toot. Love ya mahi!

We always enjoy your films and this was no exception. Loved bringing 48 hours into your argument, the outright highlighting of elements used, as well as the visual gags throughout. The main performance was fantastic - sold the ramp up in passion as he made his argument and we were all onboard with him. Lots of laugh out loud moments.
Mockumentaries/PSAs also aren’t always my favourite, but I didn’t mind the straight to camera for this one. A film where the viewers are called on directly to unify as a community for Te Waiponamu felt fitting to round out 48 hours which is such a community-based event.
When I saw ‘cathedral explodes’ on the Bingo card I was kind of hoping this would be the grand finale closing shot for the Christchurch heats – though a group chant (at least from our lounge as we watched the livestream) and power-pose was still great.
Thanks for another fun time Toot Toot – you know your audience and what they love you for, and deliver as always.

A great way to end off the Ōtautahi, Christchurch heats! Your performance every year is always great and so much fun! I'm always impressed by how well executed your ideas are, I've never really considered implementing audience engagement before in a 48Hour film, and I think you pulled it off really well! The audience was so into this which was really fun! I know you don't want it to, but I will be so mad if this doesn't make grand finals!

You may have to cope with having this film in the finals, you did a great job...

I have an affinity for stories that get the message of the good news out there, I felt this did that in a pleasing way. It could have been more respectful, and used less suggestive body movements, but generally served its purpose. The piano music was succinct and helped it along.

Casting could have been better, even at 48 hours of notice, some younger women should be available and glad of the opportunity.

You've got my vote. Most laugh out loud of the finals for me.

Michael really has accidentally turned into a strange 48hours shaped creature, with no real intention of doing well, yet he's finding himself in this odd circle of hell where the more he tries to not care about what's considered quality or worthy of judges attention, he collects more accolades - and a lot of attention! And so like last year, super comfortably in finals once again, just incredible.

This was the funniest film to come out of Chch this year, every line is gold, every beat, cut and pause feels intentionally funny (concious or not, there is good film making craft on display here!) - Paw-trait may have been a stretch, but stretching is good for your back so I endorse it. And that score was really strong too. Why does it feel like you're just doing all this with your eyes shut!

I have nothing more I can add other then a reflection that many films this year seemed to tell stories that were 'front of mind' for people. This is a surprisingly strong case study of write what you know. Michael knows comedy, he also knows the South Island arts scene deserves some love, bing bang boom, national winner inbound (I hope).

THE BEST THING: That you offer me a coke every time I come to Little A lol and that Ness hadn't seen the film until finals night, I'm not joking when I say I want it to play at grand, I think that would be absolutely phenomenal.

THE NEXT THING: I really hope you get musical sometime! that'd be a treat! And knowing you, it would probably take out the regional win

There's nothing better than a Toot Toot film in grand finals, how good were those laughs! Michael and Mark you guys are so funny and we are so lucky to have you in the chch 48 community, not just for all the joy you bring with your films, but everything outside of the competition too.
