Energetic camera work, committed, post-ironic performances.
Hardest I've laughed so far (on the first night of this year's 48 hours)!
This film is the surreal fight of a man against his own demons – with a committed performance to really sell this struggle to the audience. The film does a great job of leaning into the ghost genre for comedic effect.
The team intro got a great laugh from the audience, and then was perfectly matched into the opening shot of the film.
There was some great cinematography. Switching the colour grading mid-shot was a fun touch. The sound was good but had some room for improvement in places (understandable given this film was pulled together to such a high standard in only 48 hours).
The actors were all teenage boys, yet played a traditional family. They pulled this off with a bit of drag and some clever camera work, which I found entertaining but also heartwarming. The three wives were comedy gold but the first wife has to be my favourite.
I loved the slow-mo gun fire to Mozart's Requiem.
What got my attention:
You used the strengths of your cast really well - and is an example of when not all is cast age appropriate it still can work. Some manic performances that were superb. The whole “I’m human. (licks hand) “Tastes human” was inspired and just might become a classic 48HR line this year. I’d certainly stick it in a “Funniest Line” compilation. Some really nice shots, good tracking and loved your match cuts. Slow motion gun firing was very cool.
Things to think about:
Unless it’s intentional, turn your auto-focus off, especially in darker scenes. The camera struggled in a couple of points trying to make decisions. Almost never let the camera make focusing decisions! Some framing compositions were a little off – would’ve been great if the gun firing was more in shot throughout, by way of one example.
Overall:
You got a standing ovation from a couple of people not associated with your team – amazing! A clear step up from last year in all aspects. Loved that you really went for it with this film, overdosing on the madness and as a result the live audience loved it. Nice work – I’m so proud.
I loved this film. One of my favorites of the heat to be sure. The comedy was on point the whole time (the reveal of the third wife was perfect, me and my friends are still joking about it) and the use of extreme blood and gore to a comedic level was great.
In terms of story, I loved the fact that he litteraly killed his concince. when i watched that i coudn't help but grin at how clever it was. The story was a little tricky to follow but thats simply the nature of the 5 min max time, and i think you got everything in very well considering.
I also loved the mostaches worn to the screening. 10/10.
The action in this film was excellent, a lot of thought had been put into how to kill people off in the most visually appealing / gruesome ways possible, and the team had clearly had a lot of fun. The story was funny, with all the wives being killed off, but difficult to follow - I honestly got the feeling that the planning was something like "let's all die brutal deaths - how can we make a story that gives an excuse for us all to die?". It felt that the point was the action, and the story gave a reason for it - rather than the point being the story, and the action being chosen to tell that story. This team has a lot of potential, if you can improve the clarity of your storytelling. And the moustaches are great!
Robbed of audience favourite! This got a HUGE reaction from the crowd. I fear the votes may have come from people watching the live stream. Never change you crazy mustache boys 🥸
This film is real joy to watch. It's all been said here but the running gag of the wives and the 'taste human' we're truly inspired. And I remember being drawn in by the camera work from the very get go. Ka pai fellas
This one was such a fun watch - super dynamic, with bold coloring, and a fast pace. From the first death, the action just ramps up and up. I lost it when the ghost shows up the second time with a gun and that ghostly giggle. Loved the slow motion gun shooting, complete with great music use and some nice effects on the gun shots. While I found the story a little hard to follow in parts it didn't reduce the joy at the compete insanity of this film. Well done team! Really hope to see your bright chaotic vibe in future competitions.
WHAT A HUUUUGE STEP UP FROM LAST YEAR! SOMEBODY HAS BEEN TRULY SHARPENING THEIR SHOOTING/EDITING SKILLS IN A BIG WAY!
We were absolutely blown away by the creativity, pacing, and comedy from this crew. It was so much fun! So silly, and perhaps a little confusing, but it’s films like this that really make the competition what it is.
THE BEST THING: 3 wives!!
THE NEXT THING: As mentioned above, the story was definitely pretty unclear, and we think a lot of that comes from peaking audio and blurry, distracting shots. But man, you’ve come so far in a year - we are FIZZING for Handsome Moustache Productions in 2026! And if you haven’t already, do yourself a favour and check out films from teams like Herms Heroes to be inspired for future endeavours!
This team is one to watch!
