Pour Moi

Technically super smoothe, acting performances fantastic and a brilliant take on a difficult genre as our lead was immobilised for hours in an attempt to woo the girl of his dreams. The sound levels peaked a bit high a couple of times but those are minor quibbles. I won’t give too much away but art and pills and provocateurs really do work well on screen together. 4.5/5

Prime's Numbers

This was the film I worked on so I'm biased as f*ck. Didn't quite hang together though did it? Some of the scenes individually I thought worked really well - especially the end scene I thought was beautiful. However overall it was a bit of a confusing mess. I think the metaphor for depression wasn't quite shown clearly enough.

Gift

Beautiful opening shot between an elderly man and a wee girl. I thought, here we go, a team that's got it sorted technically. However the next shots in the office were incredibly jarring and didn't quite flow together. The mute lead actress was very good, but it felt a bit like her co-star was over-acting to compensate for her dry persona. The ending was perhaps not as shocking as you might think, though a cool idea.

These guys always do beautiful looking films, but something doesn't quite click for me. It was clever and had all the right elements, but I dunno, just felt like it lacked a little soul. Nevertheless, probably the standout film of the night in terms of professionalism.

120 hours in OSdom

Man that lead actor of yours likes getting his kit off doesn't he? Genius sight gags, filled with smut and innuendo. Perfect 48 Hours fodder. Laughed my ass off and probably enjoyed this the most of any film all night. Should get audience favourite.

Bags

Bit of a disappointment this one. The set up was nice, but some of the lighting was just too dark for me. And then the absolute killer was saying "always save the best for last" and then not having it be the best...I was waiting for a spectacular final death scene from a group I know is really talented but just didn't get it.

Mel the Magic Mushroom

Neat idea, not quite executed and with an ending that just ... didn't. I enjoyed the animated graphic and the repetitive nature of it played really well. For a time. Then it became quite monotonous. The cat food gag was great though!

Bloody Mary

Your use of paramedic'd as a verb was the single best line of the night.

Dive Dive Dance!!!

I loved it. From the establishing shots of the submarine, to the song and dance number - it's films like these that make me come back to the 48 Hours competition. Yes the quality of film was a bit sus, yes the sound wasn't amazing but dammit if it wasn't hilarious.

Awake Like An Egyptian

Their team name says it all. I wasn't sure how this was a converging storyline at all. Obviously I got the guy reading the paper and seeing the death notice but I had no idea why he travelled to Egypt. Or why the sarcophagus opened at the end. Just a bit confusing for my taste. Though I do love a good Z-Grade film.

i, love

Wonderful film. Lovely idea and execution and the male lead was magnificent, working within the limitations of the character. Some innovation with shot composition would have been cool, but overall this was one of the stand-outs of the night.

Mother's Day

Like Steel Potato, I'm not that keen on the talking heads genre, also the ending left me very confused. However I enjoyed the journey that we took to get there. Some of the acting was great, and intentional or otherwise you've unearthed a star with the Irish girl.
