La Piscine Thermale

Looking back on this film a few days after i watched it, I realized there isn't really anything you can fault it for. Great acting, great pacing and some of the best dialogue i've seen from a 48HOURS film in a while. This is easily the best script of the night and it all came together to make a short that is both funny and well crafted. The reveal for why it was an urban legend was also fantastic. The ending may have taken things a bit too far, but that's more of a personal taste thing than anything else. You also got the feeling that these people could actually be flatmates.

The Unrested Soul

This one was just plain weird. The story seemed all over the place, and the whole thing felt a bit disjointed. The score was great, although the levels could have been played with a bit. The acting was quite resonable, but some lines just came across as forced.

Life in the Bus Lane

This gets a lot of points from the fact that they took found footage in a completely different direction, but i feel this could have been executed better. The concept is fantasic, and the facts are interesting (if not bizzare as to why they are there), but i feel they could have done so much more with such a brilliant concept. Not entirely sure why the guy was recording the bus lane in the first place, but that seems more like a petty gripe. Also gets points for mocking The Blair Witch Project (I swear she's even wearing the same beanie).

Southdown

I really liked this one. The look, colour and feel of the film does partly cover over a bit of a flimsy story, but not completely. This was looking excellent for about the first half of it, then the story kind of went nowhere, and the ending just left puzzled (and not in the good way). Also, the chase scene could have been fantastic if she was running faster. Since they were limited by one shot, they cant just do some fancy cutting, and it would have felt more like a chase if it was a bit faster.

Lucky Last

Overall the production values were pretty poor, some sloppy editing and overall felt rather disjointed. Kind of weak story as well, but this gets points solely from the gag with the girl in the park, hilarious and realistic as well.

Dying Antelope

This one worked quite well. It was nothing special, but the comedy was clear and funny, costumes were excellent, and the plot was clear if not spectacular. Acting worked with the style they were going for as well.

Tryst

This did have some good elements. The twist at then end was well played, and the story was solid, if not slightly slow. The look felt slightly unprofessional as well, which was a big let down. And somebody already mentioned it but falling over a lot is not unlucky, just learn to walk better.

The List

This is easily my favourite of the heat (more than mine I hate to say). The story works fantastically, it's got a great mix of action, suspense and a little bit of comedy. Its shot well and edited fantastically. Easily the best editing in the heat and probably some the best editing i've ever seen in this competition. The ending was funny, but i felt it took away from the epic feel the rest of the short had.
