What is the Letterboxd48 Poster Comp?

The Letterboxd48 Poster Competition is a popular and highly creative part of the 48Hours film competition. It gives teams an extra opportunity to win an award and acts as a valuable exercise in film marketing and good design.

The competition capitalizes on the excitement teams feel after the shoot weekend while you wait for your films to be screened. Design a striking poster for your 48Hours film to win prizes from our friends at Letterboxd, who are passionate about celebrating filmmaking and promoting new talent.

How do I make a good poster?

A great poster starts with a great image, something that captures the themes of the story or tone of your film, while enticing the audience to watch it. You can make your poster using photography, illustration or other graphic design elements.

Photography is a strong way to sell your film but it's hard to go back in time and get photos of your cast onset, so it's a good idea to plan to capture high-quality "hero stills" during the shoot weekend. A hero still is an impactful still image taken on set specifically for marketing purposes.

These images are crucial for creating a professional and visually appealing poster. To get the best stills, consider assigning a dedicated photographer to your team, thinking about composition and lighting while you shoot, and capturing a variety of moods and expressions. High-resolution images are also key to a poster you can print.

Additionally, post your poster in the 48Hours Facebook group to share with teammates.
