You'd Make A Good Tree

Pixel Pixes...how, just how on earth did you achieve shooting this film in just 48 Hours? It looked absolutely incredible. Honestly my jaw dropped at multiple times throughout the film firstly from your super clean camera and sumptuous genuinely perfect grade but then that drone came out and the scope had me thinking I was watching a fairly high budget feature film. Just wow.

Deep in the middle of nowhere in a shed we see a couple tied up, with eerie shots of trees before we get to their plight and a soundtrack with haunting notes giving this a feeling of unease from the get go.

When the dramatic question "What the fuck did you do to these people?" gets asked and the captor appears on screen well you basically know all hell is about to break loose.

Phenomenal gore, confident performances and a chilling message this is a team that brough their A. game to the 2026 competition. Silky smooth edit, sound crunchy and clean, there is a lot to like here.

If I was to try and think of things that from a wider audience may go either way come the business end of the competition, I do wonder if at times the characters were a bit one note. But on the other hand maybe that was be design, with singularity of focus for both the capitalist and the naturalist giving them clearly defined roles.

I loved the soundtrack though it did sound very Lord of the Rings in a couple of moments, but hey we're in New Zealand so that's not a bad thing! And lastly my partner pointed out that the conclusion was apparently very similarly done in an episode of Hannibal? I don't care of course as I'm not a TV guy!

Its a genuinely beautiful film. One of the most glorious looking films the competition has ever seen and really blew me away in terms of the scope achieved for the competition. Setting a new standard in many regards.

I really loved the concept for this film and could see a whole feature born out of this 48. Brilliant prosthetics work, phenomenal cinematography, ominous sound design and a stellar score add such a slick feel to this film!

My one thought while watching would’ve been to show a little less of what the environmentalists are doing till the end so the horror and rebellion of their actions could hit even harder and be more of a shock. That’s just me being nit picky though.

I loved this piece! The cinematography was stunning and those special effects? Amazing! Such a quirky and seamless piece. Genuinely hard to believe it was made in only 48hours.
