Thee Evicted

This had some incredible, bold, well executed camera shots; the closeups were used really effectively, and I was absolutely freaked out!

A very interesting interpretation of the "comedy horror" genre: having the first half of the film be comedy and the second half be horror.
It opens with a conversation between two characters who don't feature in or affect the rest of the film (unless I missed something).
Then we have a very classic 48 Hours film. Taking place in a heightened world, near sketch comedy. Despite an awkwardly music-less silence, it's light, funny, nothing we haven't seen before.
Then, half way through, the filmmakers were seemingly possessed by the ghost of David Lynch as the film takes a sudden intense tonal shift. The neighbor's visit is quite unsettling. And the film only gains more evil energy like some sort of cursed artefact until it ends.

What I liked: Crazy switching of tones and characters seemingly uninvolved that did, in fact, hint at the plot. Liked the close-ups – some of which were really well executed. Games were fun too. End scene was well acted and had some good make-up. Also stoked to see some of my ex-students were involved in this – Will & Dinah (LHS represent!)

Take it or leave it:
The quick whip pans were hard to watch – unsettling, sure – but shouldn’t make one feel nauseous. While I liked the games, that took up a lot of time, and the real horror we didn’t really get to until much later. It was a good twist though. Probably a bit more horror than comedy, but I’m sure that some people were laughing throughout.

Final hot air:
A good short with some definite strong points. Well done!

Some great shots in this one – I especially liked your scene establishment shots when we entered the house. The sibling relationship between the characters, quibbling over chores and being competitive would be relatable to many and I loved their facial expressions as they bicker and compete. The shot variety was very nice including some effective close-ups. I did get a bit lost story wise when we switch-up to horror (maybe I missed something here but who is the visitor at the door and why are they shut out? If our main guy isn’t the brother who is he and why is he here?) but the creepy tone was established really well and ramped up nicely to a cool bloody moment.

Fun premise here team! The escelating of the games twisting into a bizzare paranomal plot was certainly an interesting way of tackling the comedy-horror.

As you mention yourself, RIP the audio! Unfortunately it was so corrupt that the tone between comedy and horror was completely lost on us, and it ended up kinda feeling like neither. That being said, the second half was quite strong regardless - the little 'yep' from your antagonist was a delight, and 'best of 10' was a great way to wrap it up.

THE BEST THING: Conceptually quite strong despite it's technical faults. Good performances.

THE NEXT THING: Sound is certainly king! Way more important than what we see is what we hear. Looking forward to next years entry team!
