Mission Impuppetable

We really had film shooting this short video on the weekend and it was a great bonus to be shooting inside during that cold weather. I truly hope, you will like it too! It is funny!

Bonus points from the get go cuz puppets (who were all excellent actors)!

Your film felt comfortablely nostalgic. I loved the puppets, the funny security guard moments (great drawing), not being able to plug the usb in first go. It was quite a topical story too. And more films should end with everyone dancing haha, great job.

The puppets were fantastic, especially the rabbit computer hacker! And the lead actress was expressive and interacted very naturally with the puppets as if they were people. The story was very topical also!

I was looking forward to this film - I've loved Pegasus' entries in previous years - and it didn't disappoint. This team improves year on year, and this time I'm hoping they'll make at least the regional shortlist.

Performances, which communicated character through vocals as much as the puppets themselves.
The puppet movements were really effective too; they had a joyous dynamism, with plenty of laugh out loud visual gags.

The name of the film Mission Impuppetable got me super excited as a puppet fan and I'm so glad that the puppets were super involved in the film!! I know the struggles of trying to shoot with puppets and keeping actors out of shot so kudos to you guys! Great performances from the puppet characters, I really enjoyed the bat flying and whenever the rabbit was hacking! The acronym reveal and devolvement into a dance party was funny as. Loved it!!

Some nice touches of humour and good voice work with the puppets. I enjoyed the bat flying and the rabbit prepping. Solidly shot and edited without doing anything spectacular.

Take it or leave it:
Those many rooms in the cinema clearly seemed to be toilets? Haha. There’s not really much of a story or a tricky heist here, and it all built to what seemed to be the real point – having a random dance party! The care tags are still on one of the puppets – damn, I found that distracting.

Final hot air:
I’m really not a fan of puppet films, and I’d hate it if I got it as a genre (I’ll probably make one next year), but this is a fun short, and you looked like you had a heap of fun. Great work on making the shortlist!

This was such a sweet short film that definitely tapped into feelings of nostalgia for the puppet-based shows I loved growing up. It was acted well in a way that allowed the puppets to really feel like full characters and not props.
You leant into a classic heist set up nicely, and there were some very cute and funny moments throughout – in particular we loved the rabbit’s “I’m in!” line and the ‘all normal here’ picture over the security camera.
I do wish some of the obstacles had been a little harder for our heist team to solve as none of them really felt that tricky for them to get past and that lowered the stakes a little bit.
The reveal that the bad guy was actually a good guy culminating in a dance party was so fun, and honestly I can’t imagine any other ending that would’ve matched the tone of your film so well. Just a delightful watch that stands out from the crowd.

The rabbit hacker was the best moment of the film, I think that's because it's a moment when puppet personality shines. I feel like you could have done a bit more of that-- the film starts with everyone sitting around a table, and the plot immediately starts. I wish that this film had taken a moment to establish the personalities of the puppets before the story kicks off.

By far the best film this team has made to date and so freaking charming. There haven't been many times in my life where I've heard someone go 'come on everyone, lets dance' and I've actively wanted to dance, but this was one of them hahahaha

Your characters are distinct, your editing was strong, your heist vibes were immaculate and your puppets were hilarious. Hacker rabbit was one of the best moments of the watching experience for me this year.

The judges weren't super gripped by it overall, although there are notes that it was charming and entertaining, and feedback that the energy was great but the technical craft would be the thing needing work to get a higher score. So take those thoughts as you see fit!

THE NEXT THING: Probably a similar thing to last years 'next thing', your stories are solid, maybe some investment into some lighting, lenses etc. would help raise the film making craft going on here and catch the judges attention a bit more. Nice job team, can't wait to next years entry!
