Family Game Fight

by Step On No Pets

Family game nights are just a bit of wholesome fun. Right?

Tragic that this team didn't draw the "one take" genre.
Because the oner in this is CRAZY. Great choreography!
Better than 90% of actual "one take" films this year.
Although, maybe it's best that they didn't because the editing in the table scene is pretty nice too.

What I liked:
Great setup, and overall the film gave me some “Chicken” by Nuggets from 2024 vibes. The initial attacks in the house are brutal. Loved the “It was just a joke” line – heard this so many times! Also loved the silliness of the 8-bit game sequence, but also so very glad that you didn’t stay with this, because the rest of the outside fighting is so good. Well shot, okay sound, and there’s some effective editing. It’s lots of fun and OTT.

Take it or leave it:
The head slam on the table was one thing, but the slapping of the sister was something else altogether and may turn some people off. Sometimes, and inconsistently, this competition can be more conservative than you may think. I loved it as it immediately raised the stakes massively and even made me gasp! Smartly, you then transitioned to the video game scene, which may have softened the blow for some. A work-on is your sound, which played a bit variable, and you could have gone harder with some of the sound FX.

Final hot air:
I really enjoyed this (one of my 2026 favs), and I think you were unlucky not to make the shortlist. Great stuff!

We loved the concept, it was really fun to watch. The quality and the camera angles were amazing and the movement flowed nicely. In terms of improvement, we thought the sound overall was rather and quiet and the sound effects for the fight scene were all the same. It would help to vary them a little bit in the future to make it more realistic. Other than that, it was a lot of fun and was well choreographed. Keep up the good work!

Guys this was awesome! A really solid contribution from a regular 48hours school, you did not dissapoint!

The characters are the main reason this works. Every sibling in this house is a distinct person within about ten seconds of meeting them, which is something teams three times your experience routinely fail to do. The charades game as a pressure cooker is a great engine, because the whole thing detonates over something small and petty and completely believable.

And then that fight!! a chef's kiss moment. Your quieter character going off and beating the absolute daylights out of everybody was incrediby satisfying - even if it was just the same punching sound over and over again...make more time for sound next year hahaha

The video game transition was certainly the weakest part of this film, it didn't quite bridge the two scenes as you probably hoped, but it was a worthy effort for trying to find a way to get your characters outside.

THE BEST THING: a one shot fight scene that was excellent

THE NEXT THING: Make more time for your sound work - and keep this energy up next year! Can't wait to see what you make next.
