a great little 8-bit short. this was an Ultra entry, though i had not seen many of the previous entries so the story was hard to relate to, as i didn't know what it was a sequel too. the crude 8-bit artwork worked very well and the jokes and shock value worked well. the story was a bit non-existent but the visual gags were great. the Wilhelm scream was implemented the best on the night.

The funniest film of the night

Hilarious and unexpected, let down only by the fact that it seemed to rely too much on what I assume was the acclaim of the previous film.

Perhaps not a film that requires much deep thought. but my stomach did hurt from laughing so hard. very well animated to great comedic affect.

Funniest film of the night for sure, in terms of audience laughs but the comedy is mostly all crass, shock value humour, which I enjoyed but is certainly not going to be to everyone's liking. It seems to rely more heavily on the jokes and visual absurdity than making sure the story comes across clearly, though I do feel I could mostly follow what was going on thanks to the relatively informative dialogue. The animation style was really cool and the audio/sounds effects equally so. Great work on a funny, silly enjoyable look into a completely messed up world.

8-bit love story with cool pixel art. Poor sound mixing and irritating robot dialogue reminiscent of a YouTube conspiracy theory video. However the audience loved it and that's what counts!

You never know what you're gonna get from Nick from Shorty. You know it's going to be creative, you know it's going to be offensive, but whether it's going to entertaining or not is a flip of the dice. Good use of 8-bit artwork, led well to nudity that no one could rightly complain about. Story was drab, dialogue was all too boring, and as we all know the story didn't really go anywhere.

I'm torn on this one. I appreciate the adherence to the 8-bit aesthetic (it felt extremely reminiscent of the games I used to play) and but I found the visuals to drag a bit. It'd be fine if it were a game but for a purely passive experience it left a bit to be desired in my mind. I have not seen the original film that this sequels, but I feel given the nature of this competition all of the ultra films really needed to stand alone as a great number of people watching wouldn't have done their research, I guess. In this regard, while the whale may have been some genius reference to the first film, it just felt boring and the reveal awfully predictable. That all being said, I thought this film did a great job of presenting some truly crass stuff in a entertaining way.
