We had a massive AVID editing blow up 1 hour till completion. Had to re-edit the entire film in 1 hour. Some audio and explosion files were missing and our crew were gutted we couldn't get the cut we spent so much time on. Overall though, super fun!
Can’t believe you only had 1 hour to re-edit this, oof! Massive congrats on getting it done and we are glad you did because we really enjoyed watching your film. The acting, especially from the lead and father character was great – very believable and solid line delivery. “What’s the beef Wellington?” was a standout line for us.
Loved the inclusion of a classic 80s training montage which had some of the more impressive moments from those we saw this year! Some more sound design and dynamic camera movement/shots would’ve amped up the fight scene, but with the editing blow up you had that is totally understandable and likely something you already had in your original cut. For story some parts were played more serious, and some were played more for comedy – I think you could’ve leaned even more into one or the other to really get the tone even stronger.
Well done again on overcoming to get this in! A fun watch and we can’t wait to see what you do next year.
Well done for pulling this edit together at the last minute you absolute 48Hours troopers! You had a clear vision and a lot of fun with the 80s action tropes. A nice iconic 80s-style ending.
The film would benefit from some clearer line delivery, as I struggled to understand some of the lines and consequently struggled to understand the plot. Experiment with low-energy, middle-energy, and high-energy performances from your actors and see what comes across more clearly and best propels the story forward. Who knows, maybe this is something you already addressed with ADR or alternative shot choices in the original edit.
That being said, I've never been good at understanding 80s action movies anyway, so maybe I'm the wrong person to be getting advice from 😂
I tell you what - the horror story of only an hour to put this footage together really does elevate it! well done for getting a story in this coherent given the setbacks.
Hard to know exactly what to feedback given you'll probably read it and go 'we know, we didn't have time' so lets focus on what we liked.
Great performance from your lead - well cast. Training montage was sick, the fight scene was conceptually strong (I assume there would have been more going on with that if you had the time) and what's the beef wellington as Meesh.M mentioned above was a great line.
THE BEST THING: Getting a film delivered at all after losing ten hours of edit, and a lead who carries the story.
THE NEXT THING: I guess don't edit on AVID! bleh. Good luck next year team! Looking forward to a full force entry from you guys.
