Exploring an abandoned prison... at 3am *GONE WRONG*

I really like this one. Best use of found footage so far. I laughed out loud at all of the youtuber-isims you had, especially the sponsor of today’s video. Overall it was one of the better videos in the heat. It was unfortunate obviously that your set was neither an abandoned building, nor 3am, but I think that and some of your other production hardships were helped by your genre and the fact that it’s medium aware anyway. Your acting and writing has space to grow too, but that just comes with practice. Overall a very good film. Great job and I hope to see you back next year!

Nice use of the found footage genre via lots of YouTuber tropes. I love how creepy the drawing of the monster was, which really painted a picture in my mind of the supernatural entity in this abandoned prison.

The film could be further elevated by creepy sound effects. Don't be afraid to put long pregnant pauses in your film to build tension, with sound effects layered in that make the prison at night sound like a really creepy place, and that give the monster more of a presence. Think about what the monster should sound like. Give the audience jump scares with sudden loud sound effects when the monster attacks someone. Use sound to add shape to the film and slowly ramp up the tension. The foundations were all there with the script, your performances, and the creepy monster design, but these are the details that would add realism and fear. Also, you could use sound effects to make it sound like night-time, and to add continuity between the shot of the moon and the shots of your actors outside.

Trying to fake night-time when you're shooting outside during the day is really hard. Sunlight is harsh and extremely directional, making it really obvious if you're outside in daylight. One trick you could have used is shooting only in the shade, out of direct sunlight, and never showing anything in the background that is in direct sunlight (especially not the bright green school field). This is because light in the shade is nice and scattered, not coming from any one direction, like at night-time. The alternative would be only filming indoors, but I imagine that would be too hard for faking a prison setting. Or of course film just after sunset (which thankfully isn't so late during winter).

Always fun watching Rolleston try to smash out two films in a weekend! And so cool to be able to swing by and see where the magic happens. Taking a look at your school facilities and going "yeah, this looks like an abandoned prison" was a great idea! Although idk what that says about the schools architecture choices lol

The drawing in this film is the standout. That actually got us, it is genuinely creepy and it is the moment the film stops being a joke and becomes something with some teeth. The drawbacks? Cutting to a room that is unmistakably a classroom undoes the prison stuff, and the title saying 3am while the footage says the middle of a bright afternoon was pretty distracting. We were also pretty gutted that it wrapped up so quick with little reveal of the monster!

THE NEXT THING: Tighten up some of those obvious set dressing issues. Would have liked to see more of a reveal!..................
