Crazy that the Auckland films don't have any reviews yet! this is PEAK!

From the twisted minds of the people who brought you 'Blood Pact' and 'The Weed Eaters' comes 'NAN!'. I am a bit biased because I love this team and all the extra artistic endeavours they have taken on, but there's no denying that Auckland has some fierce competition so it could have gone either way. However, about 30 seconds into the film I knew this was going to be good! Not only is it the best one take I have seen so far, its also the best POV/found footage and maybe the best horror-comedy(?), because the whole thing is hilarious but also has a crazy uncanny vibe to it, and it just KEEPS delivering!!

The location this is filmed in is SO good, and makes the whole film feel really liminal. The production design choices like the costumes and party props just add to the overall weirdness of the film (shout out to Yvette Parsons from 'Mum, Im Alien Pregnant', she's the best!). The camera work is SO GOOD! No gimbals, no awkward auto focus, no exposure changes, I have no idea how they pulled that off. And the music fits SO well just elevates the whole film into another level. (Fully expected this team to go with musical based on their background, but the choice to a one-take was a surprise to be sure but a welcome one)

There's nothing better than watching a 48hour film and thinking 'I love this, and I think this is going to win' and then it actually happens! Taste of Kiwi/Sports Team gotta be the most exciting group of up and coming NZ filmmakers right now, and they have a bit of a midas touch at the moment where everything they touch turns to gold! Amazing work, no notes, hope you win the whole thing!

A Birdman-esque whirlwind of suspense done really well. Loved the dynamic music, the fantastic lead actors, and the general sense of panic that was displayed throughout. The oneshot premise was executed really well, and genuinely the film looked and sounded great. Watched the team receive awards on the night and it was really heartwarming to see this team get the Regional Winner award for Auckland.

Technically, it's a great crisp image with some fun interruptions in there (who eats cake in a bathroom? Only the best of people), and just a hilarious time all-round. The twist ending is a nice funny button on the end, and it all comes together to provide a great hoot. Well done, Taste of Kiwi!
