Take Me Down

Check this out - One brilliant screenwriter and two brilliant Tauranga theatre actors with gallons of experience and you get sweet comedic timing, hilarious one liners, banter and just a lot of screen magic.
'Take me down' takes the audience down a path of obstacles, some silly and whimsy, while serving up illogical logic and a delicious ending. Yes on hindsight the twist in the last scene does seems predictable after it happens, but in fact you were swept along not really knowing whether you were going to be dropped into dark horror or left chortling with laughter. Being held tight from beginning to end in the grasp of that awkward uncertain sinister feeling of approaching dread waiting for something terrible to happen but the horror hasn't yet happened is what the horror genre is all about.
The costumes, hats and props gave off mild steampunk vibes, which I loved, while the physical comedy of both actors playing off each other and walking into trees added to the feeling of delight and enjoyment.
Placing the characters in a NZ native forest was genius too. And I'm still laughing about the reference to Hamilton. I've watched other 48 hour films where you know the characters are ad-libbing, but this film you clearly know the brilliantly scripted lines were written. I hope this film picks up a screenwriting nomination as it would be well-deserved.
The sound had some low patches where it wasn't easy hearing the dialogue but the camera told the story so well that it didn't matter to the overall story. I just really wanted to easily enjoy the hilarious dialogue.
I'd love to see these two actors do a whole feature film stumbling through various scenes on their hunt for vampires. Please bring them back and do more. Love this film so much!

Loved this film!. The beauty of watching two characters who have great chemistry and an effortless way around the hilarious dialogue was so fun to watch.
The technical side of the film-making showed a maturity and restraint that is rare in this competition. And a major plus... we could hear the dialogue so clearly - which immediately puts this above so many films which seem to forget that sound is essential.
A great contained film which is undoubtedly one of the standouts in my opinion!
