One Brick, Two Brick

A tight little story with a well-utilised small cast, and decent production values on the whole. It was narrated as a rhyming ode - I felt echoes of Dr Seuss - with well constructed anapaestic tetrameters. (Had to look that up.) One minor gripe: "clearing" does not rhyme with "swearing". Your New Zealand accent is the wrong one. Let that not take away from a quick, simple, and effective short with an okay twist in the tale. Not memorable in the long term but good enough to get my 1 point in this heat. 7/10.

This was certainly a very visually appealing film - your cinematography was extremely nice, and the manipulation of light in shot was done well. DOF was managed well too, and camera shots were well edited giving great fluidity. Unfortunately, I think your levels and Iris may have been off a little, as there was some quite serious glare, and white-out of many shots particularly of the actress. Perhaps this was intentional? I didn't find it worked very well in any case. There also seemed to be a few audio problems - it was peaking on a number of occasions, and seemed quite high in the treble. Fortunately all of the audio was still comprehensible, so it didn't seriously detract from the film. In terms of your story, I think I found that simplicity excelled. You had a very simple, but good idea, and had a nice wee twist at the end. Enormous kudos for the rhyme, the poetic narration was very brave, and you pulled it off nicely - it added significantly to the film. All in all, it was a good film experience, thank you.

A very nice rhyming story with really nice shots of scenery. The film wasn't exactly filled with action, at all which is what their genre was... However the sound was mostly good and there were some great shots. There was a bit of humor in the film which made it interesting too! All in all, great film!

Beautifully shot if not overexposed with the full-on sun staring shots. Loved the poem/rhyme narrations and the reveal of why one person was chasing the other. Great job. Finalist contender in my opinion.

Altogether a nice film. You took a big risk going for the rhyming considering how long it would take to script and the fact that it may just annoy the audience, but I think it paid off. I certainly enjoyed the flowing nature and laughs the rhymes provided. The voice over did get a bit repetitive and boring for me though.

First off, lovely script - very seussish. Loved the ending, and the scenery was, at times, gorgeous. Sound issues, but as it was screened while the audio equipment was still being fixed, I'll assume it was no fault of the team. It did seem a little over-exposed though, and failed to really sell the chase - while it was an excellent comedy movie, it didn't really feel like an action movie - it felt like the team would have been much more comfortable making something else. Hope you get something you like better next year, I'm expecting great things.

just wanted to put in my 2 cents that the overexposure issue was purely a result of the crappy projector.. I'm looking forward to seeing what people think once they can watch it on the website :)

A lovely film. I think it illustrated that a short and well crafted story beats a long and boring one every time. Really sad that technical issues impeded the quality, but overall I think the story carried through. Great twist and hilarious actors!

Really liked this film. Thought the rhymed narrative worked, because the lyrics were genuinely funny, and because the ending used the technique well. Visually also really good. Issues over the use of the genre, I'm not sure it played out as an "action" film, or if there was a full character arc. But small quibbles for what was some great work!

Wasn't exactly an action movie, but that can be easily overlooked. The rhyming was very good and the twist was very nice at the end. Your cinematography was lovely, but I think it was let down by the projection gear. Nevertheless it looked lovely and was a neat little tale.

A job very well done for a large team of V48hr virgins! Easy on both the ears and eyes, this film is a real pleasure to watch. It was the scripting that really made me want to hit 'replay', but this item is an all round tidy package. Predictably deserving of the heat win. My only real gripe: perhaps the story needed a little more to chew on? However, it's never a bad idea to err on the side of simplicity and that clearly paid off through a well polished item. 8/10

Superb, superb, superb. A flawlessly framed and captured resolved chase/heist film. Narrated well, if not always rhyming, we were lead through an exquisitely shot landscape, (nice lens choices btw) to a sudden plot twist and nicely timed ending. This should be in the city finals, really, it should be. Sure, its no Moby Dick or Agatha Christie in script depth, buts it is fun, its is entertaining, and it is told well. Principal female is a babe too.
