My personal favorite of this heat (well, apart from my own of course ;-) Thought it nailed the one shot genre and a probably a great genre for a group used to improve theatre work i'm guessing. Great characters pulled off with great acting and well written tightly paced story, I can't really think of anything to fault it. (if i was to get pedantic on it, i'd say really he could have spit the apple out at any stage, but its a device to keep the plot going so all good) Hard to beat.

This was like watching a well honed theater production, except you are drawn into the film world and therefore forget more easily that this is fiction. Having accepted in the mind that the film will be one shot, everything for some reason becomes more funny and cool because you know the camera won't shift. Cannot fault this on much, the team delivered handsomly on what it looks like they set out to do. A well rounded piece, an nice to see a tribute to actors actually acting.

TBALC - my hat off to you (not that I'm wearing one). This was perhaps the film from the heat that I remember the most, and that gives it a rave review in my head all on it's own. The 'one-shot' genre is a difficult one to pull off, and I was impressed with the way you did it. The characters interacting with the camera (in totally different ways) was great, and I loved the "oops" moment when our spontaneous hero of the man-race meets his new friend for the first time. Probably the best acting out of our heat, and thoroughly enjoyed - I couldn't fault you on much, if anything, although the image of that outfit may be burned into my retinas for awhile to come. The thief, casually nicking everything was awesome (I was reminded a little of Goodshirt's 'Sophie' music video, where the actress chills out in the foreground eating chocolate while she's robbed blind of everything bar her headphones), and thankfully continued throughout the entire piece. I've seen other works come to ruin in similar circumstances, as soon as the characters start interacting the background gets ignored and suddenly it makes no sense. But great job! It was well-paced, it was funny, impressively written, and what can I say - I loved it. Hope to see another submission next year!

In an attempt to add spontaneity to their relationship, Nicky sets up a camera opposite in front of the bed and films himself acting "erotically". At the exact moment he hand-cuffs himself to the bed, "Steely Dan" (or was it Steely Barry?!) a burglar pops his head through the window and although surprised at what he sees, takes advantage of the situation to rob the bedroom of its goodies and as it plays out, give relationship advice. This is the other approach to doing a One-shot/long take. Keep the camera stationary and have the moment concentrated within the actors and action. For this story line it worked really well and there was clear evidence of solid planning and great direction as the action was always well composed without any adjustment of the camera. As usual, TBALC's film was well-written and acted. The dialogue flowed well and the use of the required line was superb. The acting was superb (also as you would expect) and the comedic timing brilliant. Things did get a little annoying for me when the wife arrived however, probably due to the convenient and somewhat farcical use of the apple within that particular scene. Thinking back, I do question the believability of the actual story line but I guess stranger things have happened. A shoe in for the finals and a number of awards, but what's new?

A great watch, smoothly done and well acted. Lots of little twists and a very humorous criminal. Loved it!

This was so good I could hardly stand it. Everything TBALC touches seems to be gold. I loved the set, and the beginning of the "one shot" had me guessing what would happen next. The script on this thing was absolutely out-of-control good. It was a little awkward/cringe-worthy when the main actor was doing his hip thrusting in that all-too-short pair of shorts (the stubbiest stubbies). I laughed at the slow-motion sequence. The dialogue was so well-delivered and well-written. The timing! The timing of responses and general actions was incredible. Utterly superb performances by all the actors. Amazing use of the line. Incredible everything. I hope you guys win Masters of Earth awards. Things to work on: It's like, when nuking and salting the Earth don't quite achieve a level of destruction sufficient, what do you do next? Some sort of demented molecularly-mutating bio-weapon that turns the very fabric of reality into a force of wanton destruction? Whatever the appropriate analogy is here for TBALC's film-making prowess, apply it liberally. You guys press my buttons something fierce.

I loved this film it was a huge favorite for me. The script was brilliant and the actors did an amazing job at pulling it all off. Great job, this is a finalist for sure!

I can't fault it. a funny and well balanced script, technically well done, well acted, well directed. only potential niggle (and this really is nit picking) is that if Geoff could spit the apple out when he did then why wouldn't he do so earlier. non issue in the scheme of things though. the one shot genre played perfectly to your strengths. I can easily see this going all the way to the top.

This was the most memorable film of heat 09. This film shows the power of good acting and good writing. They made an awesome and hilarious film without the use of almost any special camera tricks. This was also probably the best genre this team of amazing actors could have gotten to show that off.
