Our 2018 HP48Hours Artist

Posted 8th April 2018

Last month, Ruth and I were on the hunt for an artist to create some original artwork for the 2018 HP48Hours. The brief was to illustrate a team of furious monkey film-makers. We wanted various types of monkeys all engaged in their film-making roles: a director, a camera operator, a sound recordist, an editor and a gaffer.

Ruth and I have known Wellington-based artist Mica Still for over 10-years. She is a quietly spoken woman with artwork that will sneak up on you and roar loudly in your face. Her street-styled work is populated with animals, naughty bits, bright colours and energy.

Mica is well-known in the street art scene for her bold depictions of animals mostly from North America, with our monkey film-maker brief this made her a perfect fit and we love what she has come up with!

Mica has created this short video to show the process behind the imagery for this year's competition. We hope you enjoy it! Ness
