Can you use Archive Footage?

The rules say you must shoot everything in the 48 Hours weekend.

However, can you use some footage that you have shot previously in the context of an "Archive footage" moment.

I'm thinking of scenarios where you have a cut in of a news report on the tv to help give context to the story, using a brief scene of a place or location.

I'm guessing no, but worth a question!?

In previous years this was very explicitly Not Allowed. The wording is looser these days, but I still wouldn't do it. And why not simply shoot some fake 'archive footage' during the 48 Hrs anyway?

I'd think not. You'd have to make your archive footage during the weekend as well.

Unfortunately the opportunity to shoot some new archive footage in Christchurch is limited (!) but I fully appreciate the rules and hey, you work with what you have, right!?

I'd support the no vote here.
All footage needs to be filmed in the 48 hours.

Ruling seems to be yes, but must not be a 'significant' portion of your film. Cloud scapes, city flyovers, time lapse, that sort of stuff.
If I am wrong, I hope HQ will be short, sharp and abrupt.

The following is not worded ambiguously:

The competition shoot weekend runs from 7pm Friday 1st May to 7pm Sunday 3rd May. (the 'Competition') The entire content of the 'Film' must be shot between these times.

There are a lot of things you can (and should) prepare in advance of the shoot weekend, but like Andrew said making/shooting any video (other than your team intro) is not one of those things.

Then my mediactions need adjusting, cos I surely recall a conversation/message saying (to the effect) that stock footage was permitted, but only in tiny, tiny amounts.

Maybe its the mescaline, maybe he's born with it.

It has always been one of the biggest rules of 48Hours. I would definitely suggest reassessing your meds.

I've never seen or heard any suggestion that archive footage is allowed.

The answer is a definitely no, and has always been that way.

A team in Auckland (who made a very good film by all reports) were disqualified in a previous year for using footage they'd shot previously on a TV in the background (if I recall correctly).

The exception may be for still photographs as part of a visual effect. But that's all.
