Best Places to Get Stock Music/Images/Footage?

So, there is a lot of great material out there that can be used in your films this year - lets get a resource going of sites that teams can source material from.
Heres a couple to start...

(Please note that you do need to check the rights of anything you use and while a lot of the content on sites is useable you do need to double check the rights).

Fun fact which a few people on here probably already know:
George A Romero's seminal Zombie classic "Night of the Living Dead" was never copyrighted. IIRC the title was changed at the end of the production, and someone forgot to secure the IP, and so because of this, the film falls into the public domain.
The whole movie is all over Youtube and it is technically legal for you to download or edit or sell to people, or I guess now, use in your 48hour film.

There's an idea for a 48 hour film, cut down the film to 5 minutes and submit. Just dub one of the characters so that the line shows up and composite the element if it's not already in the movie.

Yeah, as Ruth mentioned above, Creative Commons search allows you to select from different websites like youtube or google images.

If using a Creative Commons license - make sure you know which one you're using and meet the license criteria for it.

CC0 is a Public Domain license - go forth and use as you wish, without restriction!
CC-BY is Attribution - you can use however you like but you must include proper attribution (in your credits should be sufficient)

And after that it gets more complicated...

CC-BY-SA is Attribution and Share-Alike - it requires that works made using that content be shared under the same terms. If you use CC-BY-SA content then your finished film must also be available under a CC-BY-SA or similar license. This is probably compatible with 48HOURS, but that should perhaps be clarified.

CC-BY-NC is Attribution and Non-Commercial - simple enough, attribute the author and it can't be used in commercial works. I believe this license will be incompatible with 48HOURS as they require a license allowing potential commercial use.

CC-BY-ND is Attribution with No Derivatives - you can use this content on it's own (as an illustration on a website, for example) but cannot make derivative works from it. This is not compatible with use in 48HOURS as including it in your film would be a derivative work.

It is possible to create other license combinations (you can have a Share-Alike license but not require attribution, which would be a CC-SA license).

Basically anything other than CC0/Public Domain and CC-BY is likely to be more complicated than you really want to address in a 48 Hour film.

The Archive.org Moving Image archive has a lot of stuff... Much of it is legitimately in the public domain, but some is presented under US Fair Use provisions. You can definitely use Public Domain content but you can't rely on Fair Use in NZ.

In general, if you are using any stock footage or public domain content it is a very good idea to include it in your credits. In many cases it won't be specifically required, but it does help establish your source if there's any question later.
