adobe cs6

Hello

Why is it that if i were to buy CS6 it would cost me around about $3500 but if a student/teacher buys it it would only cost the them $4- 500 ???

I know with alot of these things there are discounts when it comes to education but this discout is huge ?

I have no idea but I got the student/teacher edition of CS5 with all the bells and whistles plus CS4 thrown in for good measure all for $480..
i sold it to a "friend" for $250 8 months ago and am still waiting for the cheque! i don't think he's even taken it out of the box.
I should get it back and offer it up to someone who actually has a few dollars to spare..

I found the Audition Pack weird to use but then playing with audio has always been my downfall..

I think the idea is basically to get beginners hooked on a platform in the hope that they'll stay with it. Like throwing in a copy of Windows with a new PC..

The biggest bug though with trying and getting the first registration up and running with Adobe student/teacher is getting the activation code from Adobe..

It kind a went like this..

OPERATOR
Adobe Help Line, how can I help?
SHIFTY.
Yeah hi. It's Shifty here, I applied for the CS5.5 Student Version of your software and am still waiting for the activation number.
OPERATOR
Okay I'll look that up, it seems we're just waiting on verification as to which school you're attending.
SHIFTY.
If you look at the attachment on my application you'll see it there.
OPERATOR
Ah yes, that's in order then, you should have the code within 24 hours.
SHIFTY.
Many thanks, have a good day

OPERATER
Well in that case we need a copy of your enrolment details.
SHIFTY.
Well if you look at the attachments to the file you'll see I've done that.
OPERATOR
Ah yes, that's all in order you will have your code in 24 hours.
SHIFTY.
Thank you, have a good day.

SHIFTY.

SHIFTY.
Look at the attachments.
OPERATOR

in reply to star striker:

Student software is often heavily discounted or free as the vendor wants a student to learn on their software so that they stick with it once they have graduated.
Adobe offer theirs at a much cheaper rate meanwhile some companies like Autodesk offer their programs to students for free. Both forms of student software come with a clause in the license that states that they may not be used for commercial work and oftern require student ID numbers and proof of study. I also think Autodesk realised that most students would pirate their software or find a free alternative rather than buy it and so they offer theirs at no cost with a license that lets them keep track of usage.
Also have a look at Adobe Creative Cloud, even their full price membership is pretty damn cheap for what you get.

Freezingfire is correct: the difference is the LICENSING.

The student/education versions cannot legally be used to produce commercial content.
The full versions can.

Actually IIRC you *can* use the student edition of CS6 for commercial work after you graduate.

CAn you produce commercial work if you paying for the monthly or yearly Creative Cloud membership with CS6?

I cant afford 2-3 grand to own them in full so am gunna pay monthly to suit my budget.

As long as you're paying for the commercial version and not the educational version.

I know a few people who do it that way
as a monthly fee is a whole lot more palatable
than a grand or two up front.

Don't buy it at all. Sign up for the Adobe Creative Cloud... It's AU$49/mth and you basically get the Adobe Master Collection. Plus any upgrades are available to you as they come out (including the next major version when it's released).

If you're also a registered owner of CS3 or later then it's even cheaper - only AU$29/mth for the first year.

Plus you can have the applications installed on two computers (eg. desktop and laptop).

Yeah, sort of unavoidable now anyway - Adobe is doing away with traditional sales and doing their software through the Creative Cloud.

<platform-wars-trigger>I encourage everyone to get CS6/creative cloud.

That way your stuff can keep crashing while I cruise in with heaps of time using FCPX

Just to get caught in bloody roadworks again ;)

Now please don't laugh, well you can if you want but I still think the most user friendly and stable editing software for P.C I've ever used is good old Premiere 6.5, okay let the laughing begin :)

Okay yes the audio clean up is average and what effects there are take a fair bit of super fine tuning to get a good result but if you're looking for a good basic package that can produce a good basic film then it's a good bit of software.

I've had (or used) all the premiere versions except CS6 and I still rate it highly for making a good basic film that'll come up clean. It's got more than enough tricks, I found 80 % of the stuff in later versions I never used but I wasn't making super tricky high tech film.

The only thing is I have no idea what codecs it will accept, I only ever used it with Canon and Sony mini DV cams.

I still have a copy if anyone wants it, though it won't load onto a 64bit PC, just 32bit.

The other good thing about it is that pretty much all the later versions are based on it so if you know this all the later stuff makes instant sense straight away.

So now that I've given you your morning giggle I'll get back to work :)

I use both FCPX and CS6.

FCPX does most of the heavy-lifting
while CS6 provides tons and tons of flexibility
while also allowing VFX and such via AE.
