Hiya, if our team's film has a mistake in the title on the Review site, who should we contact? Our film "Stack Overflow" was mislabeled as "Stack Overload."

Your city manager - they'll need to correct it in the central 48HOURS database.

in reply to TheNimbleMarmoset:

How do we see which reviews have been upvoted? Nothing seems to show alongside any of the reviews; all I can see is the points total up the top.

Didn't think about that! I've just added a popup so when you hover over your points score at the top - that'll give you your top 5 reviews (by total upvotes) and their individual scores.

I've also just added some very basic one-way screening room functionality... you should start to see 'Watch this film in the screening room' links start to pop up on film review pages as they are slowly uploaded. Integration going the other way (from Screening Room to Reviews) isn't under my control sorry.

in reply to Strange:

When a film is uploaded to the screening room could a link be added to that films review profile? (I’m hoping to review more films once they are available on the screening room)

Yes, I'm looking at bring back some sort of screening room integration... stay tuned.

Either that or, last year once you had reviewed a film the link to review that film would have a strike through so it was easy to see what you had and hadn’t reviewed.

Apologies, didn't realise this had stopped working - just patched this so hopefully it starts working again, let me know if not.

My guess is that now that there is an upvote/downvote system a point means one of your reviews got upvoted.

Correct! (Although upvote-only currently, no downvotes) It's there as a bit of an experiment to give people a way to say thanks for a review, and let reviewers know their words are being read/appreciated.

If you look at the total reviews number then you'll see it's different to the ones you see, so it must be a bug, isn't having influence on the score though.

It was indeed a bug, hopefully squashed now.

2018 Audience awards

in reply to Rastinha:

I don't think we get an audience favorite since we only have a final, which is a bit of a bummer. They could get everyone to vote then and there after the films have screened, have an intermission before the awards (like they usually do I think), and finish tallying it up while the other awards are announced... Just slot it in before best film and runner up.

We have an online voting system using your phone now that does live tallying so there's no reason this can't be done... in fact I'm pretty sure it will be done since I set Taranaki up in the voting system, though it's of course up to them if they want to announce on the night or after the fact.

Hey everyone, I've added posters to the team comment form... if you add one it'll display alongside your film, as well as get sorted into a random little sliding block on the front page to try draw some more attention to different films.

Hey Nick, any idea why when you click on a heat the order of the films playing keeps changing?

Probably a bug... in the past I've hand-input the screening order for each heat so the films are in order but haven't done that this year so it's getting confused... I've changed it to sort by team name alphabetically so should stop switching around now!

in reply to Cinema In Mind:

First up would be, to have a link at the top of the page to get back to 48 hours hope page?... always seems like I'm looking around for a link when I'm finished and I can't find one. Also, a link to the Screening room AND vice versa - having a link to the reviews page of the film you're watching in the screening room would be awesome.

I'll try and find a sensible place for a main site link to go but I'm not sure yet.
We used to have a little bit of bi-directionality between the screening room and reviews (I think 2014 and earlier) but given they're maintained separately it got a bit hard to maintain. Now that we share a database it might return... I'll see what can be done when films start getting uploaded for this year.

ACTUALLY... You know even an option to add a Poster or Frame of the film to our films review page (so it appears next to our films name for that year) would be awesome.

Maybe...

Any chance the review site could have a Mobile version available on the day of reviews, so we could review once we're out of the cinema? We had something like that last year I thought or?

This latest update of the site should be a lot more mobile friendly, so you shouldn't have any trouble reviewing off your phone (a box pops up on the home page too with heats that were within the last 2 days to make it easier to find yours). One thing I was kicking around last year was offering downloadable pre-filled scorecard PDFs with team/film names etc, for people to print and take along to heats, but it's a lot of work to implement.

in reply to TheNimbleMarmoset:

Hey Nick! The search functionality on the reviews site is currently a bit strange - the top-line search is just "FIND A FILM ...", but I assume that most people are like me and want to view things by cities, heats, etc., and to access that you have to go to the text on the frontpage and click on a hyperlink in there (unless I'm missing an easier way).

You're right that it's not obvious - technically the dropdown right next to the search box takes you to the City/Heat browsing table for each year, but since I've had it default to 2018 the functionality isn't really clear. I've changed that to default to 'Browse', and if you select 2018 (or any other year) you'll get the City > Heat breakdown (the same one the front page text links to).

I'd love to see a tab that takes us to the reviews on the top of the 48 hours home page.

I have asked for them to swap out Screening Room for Reviews in the top bar until the city finals get announced (as no-one can upload their films till then!) but not sure if it's possible.

Yep it's me again! Thanks guys - as always let me know if there's anything I can include on the site to make your lives easier.

Couple of new things this year besides the paint job - I'm trialling an upvote/points system to give people a way of saying thanks for a review & rewarding constructive content. We're also tied into the central 48Hours registration database now, for (near) live updating of team info/heat placement etc, so you can hassle your city managers instead of me if your film is displayed in the wrong section!

Are you planning on reviewing all of Dunedin again Stu? I'm surprised to see no reviews at all on Heat 1 yet.

Whats up with heat 10?

in reply to Scott Doar:

That's a really good point. im not sure where the suggestion box is for this type of thing, but definitely upping the character limit would be great. also a place for team Bio's would be cool.

Alright, it's doubled. 1000 characters. Is that enough?

Disqualified Shorts

in reply to BurtReeto:

The review site is great, and it would provide that info. But time is tight. I do appreciate that it would take a bit more workload, but would it?

We do log DQed info this year (which is indicated on each individual film's page) and I think we did last year as well... listing who won individual awards at city/Grand finals is a bit more work but we'll see

Ultra teams: What did you think?

in reply to Cardinal:

I'm wondering how many teams reacast roles from previous films? We mentally ruled out a lot of our previous entries due to personnel.

We featured 2 characters from the original - 1 was recast and 1 we found the original actor on Facebook and asked very nicely

The deal with watching heats

in reply to Jason:

What's happening with the new smartphone voting method? We've got someone on our team who doesn't own a smartphone. Can he not vote? Do people with more than one smartphone get extra votes?

Someone can lend him a phone to vote but he'll need an email address.

Watching Heats

in reply to Team Homeschool:

If you're in Auckland the cinema typically has loads of space! So yes absolutely!

If you do go along to other heats please consider reviewing what you see in our database at reviews.48hours.co.nz - in the past we've had regular reviewers that try go to as many heats as possible, and even some prizes up for grabs.

Grand National Finalists discussion thread

in reply to Mike Glasswell:

for animation, are they allowed some pre-made assets?

Yes, we've always allowed environments/models to be made before the competition, in the same way we don't expect every costume or set to be made within 48 hours for live-action movies.
