Appreciate your work Sam! Heat 15 was the one with just me, but it seems 14 is pretty dire too.
I wasn't impressed with the juvenile guys who called out 'wanker' amongst other things in heat 12. I guess with more and more teams it's inevitable the lowest common denominator will seep in. 48hours has always had a very supportive atmosphere in the screenings, but this year was the first I feel like things are taking a turn.
Also the strongest heat yet for me. Keep in mind the top 10 on the reviews site takes into account not just the rating but the number of reviews they got. Some outstanding films only got one or two reviews because the crowd was small or certain reviewers weren't there and never get the chance to see the top 10.
I know one heat where I was the only one who reviewed :(
Keep the ratings, but make it one, two or three Apes.
One Ape, needs more work.
Two Apes, a good romp.
Three Apes, must watch.
Replace the current top film with a list of Three-Ape films.
Everybody wins! (like NCEA)
I second that, Nick I owe you a beer.
Or whatever your poison... You should probably make a list here.
Wow I've never seen that before, thanks for the heads up. It's like how Magic Bullet bastardised 'colour grading'. Just hope people don't start thinking that they're amazing filmmakers because they can put lens flares everywhere :)
A good idea though. Integrating FX with editing. Like Smoke Lite?
Gonna give it a try...
Thanks for that link fallback, that's a pretty horrendous list of missing things. I take back what I said about genius modularity. This just blows my mind! I don't think 3rd party plugins are going to save weak media management, interoperability, i/o and (did I read this right?!?!?) the lack of track-based editing?
Wow. There used to be a serious fight, FCP vs Avid, but now I'm just sad.
This is all pretty fascinating to me and the first time I even heard about a new FCP (sorry, mainly Avid editor here). Judging by the price point of the main software, are we looking at having to pay $100 for an OMF/AAF plugin, $100 for multicam etc etc?
If they're making their software more modular, it's a pretty genius strategy. You pay for what you need. From the features I've read about -- 64-bit, multicore-enhanced BG rendering, colour management -- I think it has easily out-innovated the Avid dinosaur.
We were completely blown away to be amongst the finalists. Please let us know what you think!
I'll send you my feature and you can decide whether it's good enough to screen or not. Made it back in 2006 when I was still young and energetic so it's quite rough around the edges, but it's a good bit of cheesy fun.
Come on Peter, who needs funding? Just do 48hours ten times and you have a feature film.
Aw Shifty, that makes me a little sad... I almost want to dig out my old copy of 6.5 for nostalgia's sake. It was the first time I touched something that could actually have more than one track of video. I remember when I discovered superimposing, I felt like God had given me Lucasarts powers.
Goodbye, good old days.
