Film Making, a Basic DSLR Kit in 10 Easy Steps?

Hey I haven't read all the posts but if you want to be a film maker learn how to tell a story first before you spend all your money on gear! If your friends have good ideas, turn them into scripts for practice or maybe play with a classic that has no copyright on it. If you go down the gear track it's all about lenses. Get one good zoom lens I reckon. 2-3k...

Just a different angle for you to think about! Gear is nothing if you don't have a good story to tell (or something along those lines) J

2011 GRAND FINAL AWARDS & DISCUSSION

in reply to Blanker:

I'm surprised Couch Kumaras didn't take it out too. Their film was poetic, beautiful and inspiring. Really good to see lots of originality in the finals and throughout the comp this year and it's still blows me away what the DSLR's have done for anyone who wants a piece of the action. Looking forward to late nights in the screening room..nice work Ant!

What makes a story resonate with an audience?

I think an audience appreciates honesty, wether it's from the director or the actors. I don't know much about arcs but I have a 22ft trailer sailor on my front lawn.

GISBORNE AUDIENCE FAVOURITES

Cuzzie films are always entertaining and they have a great range of characters to chose from up the coast. It would be great to see them make something in their own time if they haven't already.

The 48 Hours Old Boys Club

Hey there are three ways to react...C) To support the teams that do well and let them know they have your support. A + B means you're only thinking about yourself.

How much money did you spend on your short?

$15 to rent a mic we didn't use and $50 on food...cheap as chips

Happy Birthday

Hey thank you...yes I have German friends (NO!) and so will be taking the subtitles out for them and posting it on vimeo. Ironically, I think that's what slowed my rendering down and made me miss the deadline! Damn, I need to upgrade.
