Auckland Shortlist

Simi - I too agree. I watched that film and thought - Dayum that didn't make the shortlist?? (and it seems any nominations for Auckland too? From last nights nominees released...)

I would say that would be a shoe-in for the top 25 in most centers... however AND IT'S A BIG however. It says one of two things... there are either 25 better films (subjectively chosen yes) from Auckland (very feasible since they have ALOT of teams...) or the judging missed a beat this year! But until we watch all the films, we won't know...

From what I understand (Ness/Ruth - correct me if I'm wrong here...) the judges rank all the films (and categories) from favourite to least favourite...- the lists/results are collated and then the judges have a get-together to discuss/argue/finalise them all and the rest is history! (or something kinda like that...).

Seems pretty upfront, open and fair to me. I mean, I've never been a judge or fly on the wall etc, so I'm guessing... however, with that set-up, every Judge gets their say - it's democratic (i.e. blind voting) and they can argue anything they disagree with in the get-together as a judging team (like they do in the bigger film festivals).
What more can you ask? I mean if anything is contentious they can talk it through and if a judge or two are outliers in their opinion, it can be understood and a decision reached together.

And most of the Judges I've seen listed, know their shit or specialist area, so you know... We are pretty lucky to have this competition with the caliber of judges involved... so can't really complain!

Posters!

FYI - the Reviews site has been upgraded to allow teams to ADD a poster (next to your films description). Should help people remember / identify films a bit easier when reviewing them.

Review Site

Oh yeah one last thought - Any chance the review site could have a Mobile version available on the day of reviews, so we could review once we're out of the cinema? We had something like that last year I thought or?

Review Site

in reply to Nick Burridge:

Hi Nick,

I have a couple of suggestions for the Review site.

First up would be, to have a link at the top of the page to get back to 48 hours hope page?... always seems like I'm looking around for a link when I'm finished and I can't find one. Also, a link to the Screening room AND vice versa - having a link to the reviews page of the film you're watching in the screening room would be awesome.

Lastly, be really cool, if a link to the film (i.e. the screening room where we can view the films) could be added to the films review page - I know it would be kinda useless until after the finalists are announced etc, but would be great to be able to watch the older films and review them if we wish - even if its post the comp... and being able to have a link directly to watch the film from the review page would be cool...

ACTUALLY... You know even an option to add a Poster or Frame of the film to our films review page (so it appears next to our films name for that year) would be awesome. It's always hard looking at a films name and trying to remember what the film was about - and a pic / poster would probably help us all remember it better.

CHCH Finals Discussion, Congrats & Question Zone

@Steelpotato - You got any stats from Welly you can add?

Also, interested to know if the Ultra films nominated in the finals will have their previous films played too for context? Assume, it may push out the event time...
