Well over 100kph run down Strickland street to hand in on time.... the runners smashed it - unfortunately he was sprinting as fast as he could to the door....while watching it close. 20 seconds late that year...picked up "best disqualified" Still an amazing weekend, everyone was still stoked, the beers flowed and we watched the film about 10 times with glee.
Again, why would anyone do Ultra?
That is a good question! The Ultra page made it seem like some special prizes etc for those who undertook a considerable challenge.....but it seems to go quiet once the competition gets underway.
Maybe it's better to just let Ultra fade away for future comps.....and just work on really interesting themes / genres instead.
May have missed the info around these on the site....so just asking on the forums...
I see the ULTRA award is a national award.....who qualifies for consideration in this? Only city finalists or are all ULTRA teams going to be judged on this? It's not clear on the Ultra page.
Also.... Is the Wildcard nomination still a thing? I can't remember seeing it mentioned anywhere this year?
Totally agree with this - city finals would get a whole lot more buy in from the wider competing teams if there were a more even spread of awards.
Back when we started the awards had more of this going on - but over time they have been whittled down further and further and (almost) exclusively had city finalists as the nominees.
Spread the love and keep the engagement up.
Used to love the awards for best bad film, and weirdest use of genre etc.... lets poke some more fun at the comp and recognize where teams have gone right! Every film I saw in the heats had gems in them that deserve recognition beyond a finalist award.
Where did we sit?! :P
Child playing child and Dog playing animal - as both main characters :D
Yip, the genres were spot on this year guys - loved the little twists etc in each one and the uniqueness of each one.
The ULTRA rule was much harder than last year - but that's not a bad thing at all. We really struggled initially - but at the end I think we have made a far better film than we would have.
Keep it up! nice to see a shake up in the competition energy, tone and vibes - things were getting stale there for a while and very sarcastic. It's great to see some new faces on board with a real love for films and the challenge of 48.
Awesome work to all the teams - really enjoyed the heats this year, great explorations into the weird and wonderful. Great to see the new format of the comp shaking things up a little.
Keep up the good work!
