Yeah, I was pleased with ours as well, especially since it was a first time for our team. Who can say what will have pleased the judges though.

So I take it we're not DQ if thats the case? Can someone elaborate?

Why only 12 this year in Auckland. There were 250 odd entrants, way more than any other region AFAIK. Seems a wee bit weird.

Guess we get held to a higher standard up here in the big smoke ;-)

It is always like this.
Wellington has 180 (ish) and they have 12 too.
It does mean the standard of Wellington and Auckland finals are generally higher than the other centres. Having said that, it is also true that some of the best films come from elsewhere.

Except that last year there were 16 in Auckland, and the year before I think 14 or 13. I wonder if it was making the awards show too long?

I imagine these shows could take while. Do they play clips from the other categories like best cinematography, best actor etc, as you see at Oscars ;-) ? And do people come up for their awards.

Can't say for other cities but yes to both in Wellington (at least in the last few years that i've attended). It does make it drag a little long, but gives way more interest to the awards when you feel like you have an idea of who was nominated.

Yeah, I can't see how they could not, it would be super boring to sit through otherwise, and this is a film awards show so the more thats up on the screen the better.

I think they need to show the clips. It gives a glimpse into the films and why they've been nominated. It acknowledges the work of the team.
I think it would be a real shame to remove the clips in order to save a bit of time.
20 seconds per film x 3 nominations x 10 categories (ish)= 10 minutes.
Even if my maths is way out (due to the number of categories) it is not that long.
