I am ridiculously excited about what you’ll come up with.
The public domain footage idea could be super awesome.

We’ll be doing stop animation most likely. Done it as a double for quite a few years and just about entirely solo for one - script writing via FaceTime and then the rest of the animation was just me.
Just enjoy makin films

A full cast of animal actors with some great voice overs is the only way to go. Make the most of Canada and get yourself a Moose and a Beaver to take the lead roles.

@Andrew - I'm doing animation my man and have a team of 2! Collaborating with my best bud who lives in Western Australia :)
ps also very much looking forward to seeing what you make!!!
Process is actually clear for us; perfectly timed for my friend to draw for hours until he needs to sleep as starts 3pm in Oz for him.
All Adobe software for the weekend and ex-wife has the kids so yeah about as sorted as can be but still have a lot of prep to do :)

I'm so gutted there's a spotlight on solo/duo teams this year, haha. My partner and I have entered as a duo for like 3 or 4 years but added 2 extras last year and this year, largely to make it a touch less intense for me (we'd both brainstorm, but then I write, direct, shoot, and do all the editing and he acts). Not that we would have got any awards, but it's nice that the competition has noticed that those people slog their guts out, haha.
Part of me was tempted to bash out a stock footage solo project alongside, but I think that might be a bit OTT :P.
Good luck to all of you solo/duo teams!

Just randomly, one friday night myself and a friend shot this while having a few drinks:
Joseph was the director/writer/editor/actor(both of them!), and I was camera/lighting/sound.

We usually have a couple of extra hands (musician, edit assist) on board but this year decided to do duo to keep things nice and simple. Hopefully we don't get musical!

I'm going to claim to be a duo even though there are three of us, because our third is a toddler. I think it should count.

Our third is 7 weeks old. We were going to give this year a miss but scored a mother's day registration prize so we are now doing ultra as a duo and making an animated film. To top it off guess who drew musical!?
This year will be intense.

From the ULTRA clarifications:
For solo/duo teams - yes child actors count as part of the team - no animals don’t.

Yeah I saw that and I'm pretty disappointed. But they're calling 17-year-olds children, in which case you'd have to say it was fair. (But we have a 3-year-old, so pretty not-all-that-fair-if-you-ask-me-but-nobody-did.)
