PJ Wildcards 2018
First off, I just want to say that I’m a long-time listener, first-time caller (since 5 years ago) and a big fan of the show.
With less than a week to go ‘til the Grand Finals, I was hoping to discuss the proverbial ‘elephant in the room’ - the (S)PJ Wildcards. (Asking for a friend of course, or rather the 13 friends who placed in their region but weren’t selected as Grand Finalists, at the very least.) I’m not sure whether everyone is abundantly polite, afraid, or was just waiting for someone else to ask the question? Or has Ness been dealing with dozens of private messages we don’t know about?
So are the wildcards still likely to happen? Will there be enough time for the judges to consider them alongside the finalists, so they still have a dog in the race? And if Mr. Jackson doesn’t have the time, will there be another 3 films selected by those who chose the top 15? Are non-Auckland teams less likely to be chosen because it’s too late to book flights and accommodation? (That last Q was somewhat tongue-in-cheek)
Full disclosure - our film was second runner up for Christchurch, but not one of the 3 Grand Finalists selected from our region. There are no ill feelings there, we love the CHCH films that were selected and agree with the whoever made that call. We were just hoping there was a chance that Sir Peter may have seen what the ChurChur judges saw so that we at least had a chance. Or that he saw what we did in DragonVMouse’s film. Or CRAB CRAB CRAB’s film. Or SJGR’s film. Don’t make me list them all. Has anyone ever pointed out that Christchurch is the best?
By the way - we already have flights and accommodation ;) Really looking forward to hanging out with those that make it to the GF. Who else is going?
