It feels as if key people in the management of this years event have been somewhat distant and distracted ever since the actual 48 hours.

Could just be communication problems, I'm told its the key to most relationship issues.

Or it could be personal... ;-)

An update from the Facebook page:

Hi, an update on finalists for Best Film. Judges are requiring extra time due to the high quality and number of films for viewing & consideration. And Peter Jackson is picking his Wildcards while on vacation so needs a bit more time (thanks Peter!) Sorry for the delay.

Also, for clarification on judging for the Grand National Final, it has been the feeling for sometime based on feedback from teams, industry & judges, that all categories in the Grand National Final be treated in the same way that nominees for Best Film are - and so the competition has been slowly evolving to fit this intended final format. This means that all finalists in each category at a regional level are considered by a judging pool for nomination at the Grand National Final, rather than the Grand Final nominees only been made up of the regional City winners. We feel this is fairer to all nominees in each of those categories, as in some cases a region may well have a number of strong nominees in one category, and all of them should be available for consideration for nomination for the Grand National Final, rather than just the winner of that region category.

Good to get some communication from the powers that be - thanks!

Haven't seen any "Best use of compulsory element X" categories listed yet. But maybe they're not there this year. (The website doesn't list a national Best Editing prize for example, but nominations have gone up for it.)

I think best incredibly strange film still has to go up (and it's listed as an award on the website).

You'd hope so.
It is a national competition and the excitement of the comp needs to be spread around the country (especially when you consider the stats that Jay has just put above).
It is so nice to be able to share in the event.

Given the short time frame between the announcement and the Grand Final I hope it's streamed... there's 3 of us going up from TBALC - but that was based on the risky 'let's get tickets and hope we make it' strategy.

If I'd waited until now I'd be staying behind.
