It's quiet. Too quiet.

Does anyone else get the feeling, just based on how little is happening here in the forums compared to previous years, that a lot of people haven't quite got the message about 48hours being up in just a couple of weeks?

Really? Maybe next year we just go with late may again and just let the south island people be cold, an extra hour isn't worth no actors I think.

in reply to Andrew Todd:

Hear hear Andrew. 48 Hours is like chess: you only get better by losing. Playing a person who you constantly beat is not challenging.

And anyone who has been around this competition long enough knows that it is not professionalism that wins awards - it's quirky, creative, and innovative approaches. Ask the casts and crews of TV shows like Shortland Street - who I understand have participated in the past - and see how many times they've been pipped at the post by newbs!

The BEST thing I find about 48 Hours is the opportunity to get new people in our team and give them something to do they've never done in their lives before. That's how stars are born!

Please please PLEASE don't ever allow this to become a 'them and us' situation with multiple divisions - I honestly don't know which one I'd fit in for a start!

Still here, old hand and all that.

The very idea of a division between pros and no's is abhorent to the very spirit of this comp.
Remove the very idea.

I've witnessed fully professional teams bottom out and blow up, their films an embarassment, only to be upstaged by a deep and engaging film made by teens without the nouce to make three-teir sandwiches.

This comp is so delicious and exciting. Every year it takes my breath away.

I've said it before (many times) and I'll say it again - There is no such thing as a professional 48HOURS team!

Nothing else is like 48HOURS - even a team of people who make television drama every week is going to be out of their element in 48HOURS.

And more so now than when I first competed 12 years ago the technical distinction between the teams made up of pros (with access to gear etc) and amateurs is getting smaller and smaller. Everyone can get hold of great cameras, good editing software etc etc...

What it comes down to is a good combination of skill and luck. And that's pretty hard to classify or predict.

I think the change of dates has thrown my anticipation and excitement glands out of balance (not sure where you would find those in the human body but i am sure they exist).
I have had to resort to filling my socks with raspberry jelly crystals in order to prepare myself for this weekend.

I feel like I am missing something important but its not kicking in yet.... maybe its actors or a camera or something. I guess that is part of the fun on Friday night.

Ah hey, another Peterson! (I'm one too)
You're the third Peterson in the 48hr competition that I know about, and as far as I know none of us are related to each other!

I wonder if as well as fewer teams (I'm still only guessing, no doubt Ant will let us know the numbers at some point) we'll also have a higher ratio of Failed To Complete teams than normal, because I know for damn sure I'm nowhere near the preparation I've had in previous years.

I quite like it. Maybe we should have even less notice.

(I really should get a couple of thumb drives though.)

Yeah you would think Peterson was a more common name, but it seems to be a bit scarce. And we probably are related via some great great great grandfather.
