I'm not from Chch nor have I seen any of the films, but just from screenshots on the FB page I'm happy to put my wager on:
In it to win it

... And here's my list.
Probably gonna make the finals
Bork - Night Shift
Deep Dish Pizza Wolf - Rozkol (Schism)
Dragon V Mouse - That Time of the Month
Dystography Studios - Cold Hearted
JAGBOG - Cut
Little Old Lady Productions - Decompression
No Budget Ninjas - Lifeboy
Snack to the Future - A Familiar Feeling
South Jersey Ghost Research - Catman and Robyn
Strang Entertainment - Timmy
Submission Impossible - Now You See Me, Now You Don't
TBALC - D.O.C Force: Danger Island
Team Moon - Inflamed
The Brothers Boyce - All Hallows' Eve
Toot Toot - Stopping World War II
Furthermore, I predict that one of these 15 films will win Christchurch.
Seriously though, a) congrats to all the finalists, and b) any thoughts about the final 15? It all seems roughly in line with people's predictions, but were there any surprise inclusions or omissions?
Also, is that award really being called "Best Performer", even though half the nominations are for groups of performers? (I would humbly suggest that "Best Performance" is a slightly more effective wording to capture the various options.)

I'm not really sure what this award is about anymore. Seems it's become unnecessarily cluttered and complicated. So, if a team with multiple nominees wins, everyone wins? I think this has been mentioned before but it theory an animal could win or an inanimate object? At least I suppose there appears to be more nominees this year. In 2018, when this change came in it essentially halved the nominations.

Breakdown:
(This is including making the finals as a "Best Picture" nomination)
11 Noms: TBALC & SNACK TO THE FUTURE
10 Noms: THE BROTHERS BOYCE
7 Noms: BORK, DEEP DISH PIZZA WOLF, TOOT TOOT
6 Noms: DRAGON V MOUSE, LITTLE OLD LADY PRODUCTIONS
5 Noms: JAGBOG, STRANG ENTERTAINMENT
4 Noms: TEAM MOON
3 Noms: CRAB CRAB CRAB, DYSTOGRAPHY STUDIOS, NO BUDGET NINJAS, SOUTH JERSEY GHOST RESEARCH, SUBMISSION IMPOSSIBLE
JAGBOG & Snack to the Future are the only teams with both a Director & Script nomination, historically these two categories have contained the winner/runner-up. From my findings a couple of years ago, a Script nomination seems to be the one you need to win/place as IIRC only one team has come runner up without one and that was a non-dialogue film.
Edit: Blood & Bone did it last year too, and they did the best Chch has done in almost 10 years so maybe not being nominated for script is what you want!

I think that's largely due to Christchurch being predictable! Some of the names might change but the faces remain the same. Only Brothers Boyce are new to the finals (as far as I can tell) and with their links to a Sydney based production company they have the necessary goods.
I think Crab, Crab, Crab are probably unlucky. Olax too.

Hero didn't have one; Eh Team's 2011 body-switch movie didn't have one; New Fish didn't have one; Death In The West didn't have one; and yeah, Azanti didn't have one. (Source: I have detailed files (but they only go back to 2009))
Also, only one team has all of the big five - director, script, editing, cinematography, and performance - and that's Eh Team 2.0. Of course, animated films and musicals throw this all out of sorts, so, uh.........

Also interesting: Best Director has only been a category (in Chch anyway) since 2013. Of the six city winners, three didn't have Best Director nominations (The Ex, Down To The Wire, and Utka), but EVERY runner-up has had one.

When I had a look through old noms & winners as far back as I could see, I noticed this too and took that Directing noms are better for runners up, but Script noms are better for a win.

You all are reading waaay too much into noms. Moffilaide won Wellington in 2017 and winning best film was the only award they got on the night :)
