Nice list, Strange. I remembered not to reveal your true identity :)
I did notice that you excluded your own film. Always so modest.

I had the beginnings of a list like this and it was pretty much identical to Strang just with a couple of my personal hopefuls switched out (eg. PlanetFoxFilms "There was a way" and Moofestations "Natalie and Gregory"). Looking at these titles makes me glad I'm not gonna be in that room deciding which 15 are gonna make it. Exciting stuff!!

Just want to thank you guys for your review output again. For me, you are one of the key benchmarks through which I compare our films to others, plus there's always nuggets of advice and observations that we carry forward year on year. I'm pretty disappointed we didn't get into the Top 25 and follow Strange's very welcome nod, but we'll be back next time ...

I've long since given up hope of ever getting into the finals. Still, I would never make something I wouldn't be happy to watch again or show others. This year was a fun experiment to see what would happen. I really feel some of those veteran teams aren't pushing themselves hard enough

Mike. I just want to say I absolutely loved your film! I said so in my review that if you don't get a nod for best script I will be gutted. The concept was excellent and execution was great and the dialogue at the end would have given Neil de Grasse Tyson a run for his money ;) Well done.

Of Mr Teas' list, 14/15 of his top 15 and 5/10 of the top 25 (Total of 19/25) correct predictions. Even gave himself a cheeky nomination, well deserved! Congrats to everyone!

And for the record, Rowan had 13/19 correct. Interesting to see if all of those end up being the ones that make the finals when that's announced.
Quick show of hands, what does everyone think of the new shortlist thing?

While my initial response was "Huh?", right now I'm choosing to reserve any further judgement, until I get a better idea of how it's received by the competitors at large, especially those who make the top 25 but not the top 15.
(For example, for those 10 teams, is this going to be liked and helpful because they'll get a better sense of how close they came, to help them calibrate their efforts for next year? Or will they just feel a bit dejected coming off the tease of being a possible finalist that never eventuated?)
(And if I end up being one of those 10, I'll be sure to let you know the flavour of my ennui.)
I'm also curious to see how many of the not-top-25 teams upload their films for public viewing. If those numbers are markedly up on previous years, I guess that will be a decent tick in the PRO column for this new system.

Love it! Ask me again when the 15 finalists are announced.
I'm also curious to see how many of the not-top-25 teams upload their films for public viewing.
Last year in CHCH 43 films were uploaded to the Screening Room out of (according to the reviews site) 95 films, (excluding a few MIAs). So about 45%. Surely that can be beaten. Only 12/15 finalists are in the 2017 Screening Room.

For teams outside the top 25: Keeps the momentum/hype of the 48Hours weekend, being able to watch films from heats which you couldn't attend or from other regions. Allows films to be uploaded earlier, more reviews can be written, get feedback for next year, etc.
For teams in 11~25: Gutting definitely once the finalists are announced, but as TheNimbleMarmoset said, it gives those teams a future goal for next year's competition. These are generally the teams who are active in the community through the forums, facebook, and review site. This is healthy for the competition, I think, on top of AJ's reviews (For Christchurch at least), the quality of films can only get better! slight bias maybe being in top 25
For teams in top 15: Not much of a change imo, the "tier 1" films from that year are mostly determined after heats presumably.
You haven't even seen my film, Seigan!
Its good to see an new up-and-coming team such as Everything Sticks in the competition! Exciting to see the growth of the team in future years! \s

I like the idea.
I don't think being amongst films 11-25 would be too gutting. It would suggest that you are close and being considered.
