Auckland finals - insanely good

It was a hell of a night last night. The collective bar gets higher and higher. Especially in terms of production value. It felt like any of the teams last night had the potential to make a solid feature film.

Half of those films could have taken the top prize without complaint, though the actual winner was the one I tipped (I have a witness, don’t challenge me). It was a joy to watch and to see Halcyon claim the ape.

Heaps of fresh ideas, too. Distant Rumble’s High School film was incredibly well realised and Angel3’s take on the ten year condition was bold. PepTok and Sneeze were more polished than a navy man’s shoes and the focused insanity from Chess Club and PickleThugs made me so happy.

I’m missing heaps out. Please, add some highlights.

Yeah it was a pretty good night, it was actually the first Auckland finals I've been to since 2008. I had already bought my ticket before I knew what the finalists and nominees would be but it was still a bit exciting to see my team show up in on the screen briefly even if we didn't win in the end.
The host was pretty good and I also found it interesting how many winners couldn't make it that night. I did feel that a lot of the films were quite dark in tone this year.

I thought Jovial Entertainment's "Daddy’s Little Angel" was *bloody* excellent, If it doesn't make it through to the national finals off the judges I reckon it's guaranteed a wild card spot.

in reply to Scott Doar:

If there's chaos it would be from trying to find the right collection of dongles/software to get it in and out of your computer. Of course the higher end teams could just buy old powerbooks/Macbooks off of trademe or whatever.
