48Hours - A Family Affair

Now that 48Hours has matured (15 years?) I'm interested in how many teams are made up of families. Especially kids that grew up around 48Hours madness.

For my part: I started when my kids were little, then started using them in our films. Then they progressed to being in their own school teams. Now in 2018 we entered as a family of four (girls are 13 and 16). It was so much fun. A completely different dynamic, and something I'll cherish.

Who else has a family affair?

My partner and I have done all our 12 films together, quite a few it was only us. The cats don’t really help, but they do get into the Lego. Like, literally get into the Lego. Knocking things over, breaking sets etc. Adds to the fun

My partner and I used to be a duo team, so I guess that's technically a family team :). Last year we added some extra people because I do all the technical stuff and he acts, so having some extra hands on deck and actors so I can stay behind the camera helped.

This year my sister and niece were in the country visiting from Perth, so we added them to the mix, and one of our friends who joined us last year included her daughter. So we had me, my partner, my sister, my niece (11), 3 friends and 1 friend's daughter (10). So mixed, but semi family affair :)

My team is still pretty young (2 years out of high school) but already it's become apparent that having family who's on the same wave length as you makes this competition even more of a blast. This year our team had 3 families made up of brothers, sisters, sister'n'laws, girlfriends +some friends who are essentially family to us. I can only see the rip focus family tree getting more complicated in years to come! :')

rip focus - Team Leader
2019 - "a nipple in time" (Time-Travel)
2018 - "A Slice of You" (Anti-Rom Com)
2017 - "A Ripple in Time" (Sci-Fi)

Bus Stop Studios (School Team) - Team Leader
2016- "Knitting, Crochet & Embroidery" (Puppet)
2015- "Harper's Curiosity" (Mystery)

Have been using my kids in some capacity since 2012. Used 3/4 this year and borrowed my other son's car for the weekend. My youngest daughter is the most likely to be involved moving forward. It's cool but I often forget they're my kids and get a bit mean. I'm also a teacher and have used ex and current students for a number of years. Very proud when they keep entering post-school.

I met a former student at the launch who had entered as a teacher with her school. Made me smile.

Yep - we are a family team, in fact, we are made up of two families who have competed for years and years. Our kids have been involved from the get go, and have kinda grown up with the festival. It was special to see the second generation taking charge this year.

The idea of doing this with a partner is amazing. I’ve got a 2 year old daughter who is ridiculously photogenic and am training her up for any future horror genres we get.

People look at us weirdly when she tells me she wants to eat my brains. #start’emyoung
