2014? What do we want from the comp?

The time has come ladies and gents, to put on our thinking caps and dream about what we want from the comp.

I'm keen for some classic genres- heist, western, revenge, slapstick, and film noir

I'd also like it to be stormy, none of this good weather rubbish. I want wind and rain.
OR
I'd like it in early April and the weather to be stunning.

Ideas people?

Thought of another one ;

5. Random running order within individual heats. It's one thing to have the same teams in your heat every year, but always running right after one of the big teams is less fun ;-)

Easy to implement and would shuffle things nicely.

Shakespeare would be great considering I'm in a Shakespeare performance a couple of days after the shoot and it'd be useful to get into character. Plus, despite multiple Shakespeare film adaptions already, there's a lot you can do with it.

I think one shot or no dialogue would be fun, at least with no dialogue there's less of a chance of getting bad sound.

Short Films

July 2012 - "Keeping the Peace" - Silent - director, co-writer, cameo
Feb 2012 - "The Forever Drug" - Sci-fi - writer, editor, cameo
Jan 2011 - "Possessions" - Horror - director, co - writer, editor, actor

48 Hours

2014 - "Symbology" - Revenge film - Director, actor, editor
2013 - "Obsession" - Obsessive Relationship Movie - Director, editor
2011 - "Geek-Chic-Love" - Rom-Com - Director, Editor, Actor

in reply to Skyuni123:

No dialogue would be/could be different from silent.
Great sound would/could be essential

Perhaps 'Shakespearean' rather than 'Shakespeare', where the features are included into a 'new' plot

Hmmmmm
even the word genre now sends me into fight/flight syndrome...

I guess with me being solo, some genres would be so much more difficult...
Like... imagine if i got one-shot! The fact I'm filming and acting alone would make that near impossible don't you think?

With that said, I understand the interpretations of a genre can be creative. for example, does one-shot really need to be one-shot?

for example, a David vs Goliath type feel could be a one-shot interpretation?
In the end...best to relax and deal with the genre when I get it, and delight in the fact I can enjoy a challenging weekend

:)

Cheers, William Bisset

Silent Movie would be a great genre - there are a bunch of aspiring young actors who have studied mime, what a wonderful way for them to show off their wares!

National Geographic might be an interesting genre (I know we've done the Mockumentaries to death, but a truly serious doco genre would be kewl).

I also think "Loop" would great: the movie has to finish in a way that if it was looped constantly it would seamlessly play without any evidence of starting/stopping.

Our fear is Crime. Had it two year's in a row and a real bugger to subvert.

Loop is such a cool genre/style/gimmick. I would happily endorse it.

Perhaps a tripod/no tripod option.
Handheld camera only or Tripod/locked off shots, (anyone remember GLOSS?)

Ooohhh, nice, I like the loop. I was thinking you meant full circle story at first, but I like the added technical challenge of making it seamless.
I've also wanted silent movie for a few years.

Pantomime, just to be hilariously terrible.

Or a decent swag bag like they had in years far gone.

What about a dvd of the best movies? :P

It's late in the day, but I'd LOVE to see 1st Person as a genre.

I think now that video content is so easily available online (and because there is the screening room, too), the DVDs would have even fewer sales now than they did when they used to have them!

I had to look up what snorricam was, but I love that as an idea. Would mess with some of the styles I have in my head though, damnit.
