Heat 8 was close.

Big yuks always seem to go over well in the audience vote.
Judges aren't swayed by the laff meter though.
They'll consider the films on their merits.
That's why there's always a difference between Audience Votes and the City Finals. Well most years there is.

Las years final wasn't exactly filled with audience winners was it? Or was it?

I'm still amazed the judges had so much self-control (?) about Clinky's RoboRevenge short last year. I would have given it everything, completely won me over.

thanks for the review of our animation michael (ratty crack bride).

was pretty embarrassed and feel an apology is needed for our overly excited/obnoxious friends who came along to support us. They were absolutely rude and disrespectful. Won't be inviting them along to the heats next year...

awesome heat though! some really great films in it. Thought Glow was really well done, and am also amazed it didn't place as an audience favourite

No worries, as some times a boisterous crowd is all part of the fun. But a lot of people in my team really liked your film so good luck and make sure you hit up your music contacts. :)

Hopefully it was just well liked, there were only 4 of us in the theatre so pretty sure we couldn't rig the voting.

I am really surprised that Glow didn't get in though, I felt for sure they would win. The lead should win best actor if nothing else!

We are really stoked to have won audience favourite and very happy with the reviews but not sure why people talk about, 'no matter what genre they had I think they would have made a lego film' - its not a genre choice, its an animation style choice, like drawing, or using actors. Imagine if I said 'No matter what film Del Sur got they would have made a live action movie with real actors.' I'm just saying :)

Yeah ... four people in a full theatre do not an audience rig make. And, might I add, our team members and hangers on have voted for other shorts in the past.

We vote what we like, and sometimes, we like someone else's work better on the night.

Perhaps I could explain it better ... with a montage?

Agree with the choices in AKL heat 6, but very surprised by the order - I'd have put "The Catch Up" top.

Enjoyed Heat 10 last night. Each year the quality gets higher.

Is this still the main forum for discussing the films? If so, there's not much going on. I've been reading the reviews (and writing some) but have yet to find a place where people discuss and then complain and argue about everything?

I think every film in this years comp, mine included, sucks. If you want to disagree, then you're as wrong as Shifty's hat.

I think you're probably right about every film in this year's comp sucking. Well, the ones that weren't made in Auckland anyway.

I've been blown away by the skills on display up here. Lots of great stuff. Even the disasters seem more hilarious than in previous years.

I think as the technology becomes more reliable and accessible then the playing field broadens. Some teams will always have more gadgets etc at their disposal, but the thing that I love is that the small, low tech team has a bloody good shot at the comp.

My earlier post was in regard to the fact that there was no arguments on the forums. Nothing like upsetting people to get discussion going.
